On August 28, the Church celebrates the feast of St Augustine, one of the great Doctors of the Church. On this special day, we hear from Villanova College Chaplain, Fr Saldie Resolado, OSA, who reflects on Augustine’s restless heart at the beginning of his Christian journey—a heart that longed for truth and found its rest only in God. His story is a powerful reminder of the transforming grace of conversion, as he turned from his old ways to embrace a new life centred wholly on Christ. As we honour St Augustine, let us join together in praying his Pilgrim’s Prayer, asking the Lord to guide our own hearts ever closer to Him.

God is ever near to us, dwelling within our hearts and going before us in every moment of our lives. We warmly invite you to enter into this time of meditative prayer with Piper, trusting that the words you will hear and see may, by the grace of Christ our Lord, strengthen and uplift your heart today. Come, let us pray together.

We continue to unite our prayers with the intentions of our Holy Father entrusted to us for this year, and this month we are especially blessed to be joined by Fr Elie, parish priest of St Clement’s Melkite Catholic Church. We pray especially for societies where living together in peace is most challenging, asking that, through the grace and blessing of Jesus, they may grow in mutual respect, be strengthened in harmony, and be filled with the love and peace that come from Him.

Today we celebrate the feast of Saint Mary MacKillop, Australia’s first saint and patron of the Archdiocese of Brisbane. We hear from Monica as she reflects on the enduring legacy of St Mary MacKillop and the profound impact her witness of faith and service has had on her family. May we draw inspiration from Mary’s words, “Never see a need without doing something about it,” and strive to follow her example of compassionate action. St Mary MacKillop, pray for us.

We acknowledge Homelessness Awareness Week and hold in prayer all those experiencing homelessness. Every person is made in the image and likeness of God, deserving of dignity, a place to call home, and the chance to flourish. Many dedicated organisations are doing God’s work, reaching out to those who suffer without shelter. Let us unite in prayer with Chris from Centacare, asking for God’s love and mercy to bring an end to homelessness for all. Let us pray together.
