The issue isn’t about the facts because the facts don’t speak for themselves. They have to be interpreted. And what you believe about the past determines how you interpret the evidence. So it isn’t science versus the Bible or science versus religion. It’s one interpretation of the evidence competing with another interpretation.
Because creationists start with God’s Word, beginning with the book of Genesis, we come to an entirely different conclusion than those who start with man’s ideas about the past.
