Arezou Art

Portlynn Tagavi is a half Persian, half African American character designer, storyboard artist and filmmaker working in companies such as Paramount, Fox, Dreamworks TV and currently Netflix.

She studied Character Animation at Cal Arts and filmmaking at American Film Institute.

In this episode Portlynn talks about her mixed background culture and her journey to find out more about her Persian heritage. She gives some great tips on storyboarding and ways of storytelling and how it leads her to take a role as a director to make her short movies as well as the differences and similarities between making a live action and animation movie. We touched on important subjects such as bringing body positivity into her work, supporting "Black Lives Matters" with her art and being more open about female experiences stories with her graduation short " Caught Red Handed".

Kris Pearn is a director, story artist and animator with experience in film and television in companies such as Sony Pictures Animation and Netflix, including such films as Surf's Up, Open Season, Arthur Christmas. He is a director of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and his recent Netflix's animated feature "The Willoughbys" !

In this episode Kris talks about all his journey of becoming a director. From his past of working for the legendary Don Bluth, studying at Sheridan and how he end up being a teacher to my previous guest Deanna (Episode #5) .He shares the differences between TV animation and feature film and the valuable lessons he learnt from it, great tips about storyboard and pitching your ideas and how he is layering jokes and adding homour to his work.

Deanna Marsigliese is an Art director and character designer at Pixar animation studios and has been working there since 2012 on movies such as Incredibles 2, Inside Out. 

In this episode Deanna shares all her journey from being a 2D animator at Yowza Animation to become a character designer. We also talked about her love for fashion and vintage style, making collages and adding her Italian flair to the upcoming Pixar's feature film LUCA ! As well as her podcast with   Zaruhi Galstyan back in 2016, "Straight against the Curve".
