THE REALITY OF OCD:
TRACI PERKINS’ JOURNEY – FROM THE OCD PROJECT - PART ONE
I’m really excited about this morning’s show. It’s part 1
of my conversation with Traci Perkins, a patient on the reality show, “The OCD
Project" was a reality television series that aired on VH1 in 2010. The
show followed the experiences of individuals with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
(OCD) as they underwent intensive therapy and treatment at a residential
treatment facility. Dr. David Tolin, a psychologist and expert in OCD, led the
therapy sessions and worked with the participants to help them manage their OCD
symptoms. The show aimed to raise awareness about OCD and provide insight into
the challenges faced by individuals living with the condition.
tells us about the first time she remembers performing an OCD ritual, how she
first learned she had OCD and her family reactions. We discuss medications, magical
thinking and the many rituals she has had, including audible rituals. She also
shares with us how she was chosen to be a patient on The OCD Project.
Project can still be found on YouTube. I encourage you to watch it to get more
familiar with Traci. We are hoping to record an episode devoted to the show and
you can ask Traci questions about the show beforehand. She will be glad to
answer your questions on air. Please contact me on my social media links, which
are below in the show notes, with any questions you may have for Traci.
