Stafford Township Police Officer Chris Smith and Pat Montouri, CEO of the Police Unity Tour are back to discuss a very special event upcoming.  There will be an Italian Christmas Concert held November 23rd 3 p.m. at The Stafford Arts Center with award winning Italian tenor Michael Castaldo and friends.  Christmas songs sung mostly in Italian, some in English, and some in Latin. This week, our guest is former superior court judge Lawrence Jones. Judge Jones is a resident of Toms River, an accomplished author, consultant and is currently a professor at Monmouth University. Prior to retiring in 2017, Judge Jones specialized in family court and domestic law. This past Tuesday evening Judge Jones was one of the speakers at the Brick Township council meeting. Mayor Ducey proclaimed the month of October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This is also recognized nationwide.

Brick Township has recently had three incidents which involved domestic violence. Providence House and Dotties Place were also recognized for their work in helping victims of domestic violence. Judge Jones also brought two of his students to the meeting to speak about their experience with domestic violence. The course taught by Judge Lawrence Jones at Monmouth University is the first of its kind and has been well received by students. All aspects of domestic violence are taught during this course.

This week, we have Kristina Faretra, a Middletown mom of two.  Kristina and her husband have a son Tyler, turning three in January, who has been struggling with an illness called Gastroparesis since he was four weeks old. Gastroparesis affects millions worldwide, yet to date there is little research being done to find a cure. It basically means "paralysis of the stomach." Gastroparesis is often overlooked, but can be easily diagnosed given the proper testing. Gastroparesis affects the gastrointestinal system, it is a digestive motility disorder in which the stomach muscles, controlled by the Vagus nerve, fail to contract and move food from the stomach into the intestines at the proper rate. This can cause a myriad of problems such as weight loss, inability to digest food, nausea, acid reflux and blood sugar issues.

It’s Around Ocean County with Lisa Anderson and guests from the Susan G Komen Foundation, Meghan Coppinger, Communications and Marketing Manager for SGK, along with Melissa Surdez, Board Member who is also living with metastatic breast cancer. October is breast cancer awareness month. The Susan G Komen began in 1980 with a promise between two sisters, Susan G Komen lost her battle with breast cancer at the age of thirty six, and her sister Nancy Brinker established the Susan G Komen Foundation in her honor with the vision of a world without breast cancer. Their goal is to reduce the number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the US by 2026.

We’re back with guests Meghan Coppinger and Melissa Surdez from the Susan G Komen Foundation.  The Foundation provides support for women and men battling breast cancer, such as free mammograms, support groups, transportation and more. They also provide grants and funding to further research and new medications to treat breast cancer. One of the major source of funding is the More than pink walk, and the Race for the cure. This year's More than Pink Walk takes place November 3rd at Six Flags Great Adventure. Thousands of participants raise money towards a cure. This week our guest is Krista Newbert, Public Relations Director for the non-profit organization Holiday Express. The Mission of Holiday Express is to deliver music, food, gifts, financial support and friendship to those with the greatest need for the gift of human kindness during the holiday season and throughout the year.  it was founded by long time shore resident and musician Tom McLoone in 1993. Since then, it has grown from a handful of musicians performing at several shelters and nursing homes to performing over one hundred shows during the holiday season throughout New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania with over a hundred musicians and singers. Their concerts include nursing homes, shelters, institutions and the underserved.  Over one thousand volunteers help organize the donations for area residents in need at a new warehouse located on Industrial Way in Eatontown.
