Gwen Moran returns to talk about the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Giving, which takes place Monday January 21st at Wall Intermediate School from 9 a.m. until noon.  In it's third year, the MLK Jr. Day of Giving invites the public to take part in this event. it has grown in donations and volunteers from it's first year and hopes to become even more successful this year.

This week’s Around Ocean County show continues with Paul Ressler, founder of TOPAC (The Overdose Prevention Agency Corporation.) TOPAC provides training, namely NARCAN, for individuals wanting to learn how and when to administer the drug to reverse the effects of heroin. unds are needed to sustain NARCAN training, and one of the fundraisers was discussed which will take place on January 13th. "Another Rockin Fundraiser" features area musicians such as Bobby Bandiera and Lisa Bouchelle to name a few. Tickets can be purchased via the website which is overdoseprevention.org.

This week, Lisa’s guest is Paul Ressler, CEO and founder of TOPAC (The Overdose Prevention Agency Corporation.) TOPAC provides training, namely NARCAN, for individuals wanting to learn how and when to administer the drug to reverse the effects of heroin. So far, TOPAC has trained hundreds of people on a volunteer basis. In addition to providing NARCAN training, Paul, along with a group of citizens from Monmouth, Ocean and Mercer Counties were instrumental in implementing the Overdose Protection Act, also known as the Good Samaritan Law back in 2014, which provides immunity from prosecution to anyone who seeks emergency treatment for a friend or family member who is experiencing an overdose. If someone calls 911 to report an overdose and is in fact in possession of narcotics, they will not be arrested. This is to ensure the individual receives critical care and treatment such as narcan and hospitalization in an overdose crisis, rather than succumb to an overdose.

This week on Around Ocean County, Lisa has the pleasure of interviewing Billy Bauer, founder of the non-profit organization Baunjistrong.org. This organization assists families whose pet is diagnosed with a terminal illness, and also educates the public on the importance of a raw diet to avoid the staggering statistics of  dogs who are diagnosed with cancer.

 

Also the importance of avoiding chemical laden dog biscuits, treats and bones.

 

Studies show that dogs who are soley fed a raw diet lead healthier disease free lives for many years, as opposed to the dry kibble sold in most stores.

This week features Ken Zaentz, the President and CEO of Alzheimer's NJ, a non profit organization serving all of NJ including Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Alzheimer's NJ became a separate organization five years ago after deciding it would no longer be a part of the Alzheimers Association of NJ. They felt they could better serve the people of NJ with additional services such as support groups, respite care, monetary assistance and general education on caring for someone with Alzheimers disease.

The second half of the interview with Ken Zaentz from Alzheimers NJ deals with Holiday tips for caregivers and their loved ones affected by Alzheimers.

It’s Around Ocean County with Lisa Anderson and this week, we’re happy to have Stan Rosenthal from the Women’s Hospitality Network of Asbury Park.  Women’s hospitality Network is in its second year of operation. It began as an effort to help homeless women who were homeless and had nowhere to sleep especially during the winter months. Beginning December 1st and running until April, the WHN joined with 8 area houses of worship to provide shelter, a hot meal, clothing and basic necessities. Job support, housing information and social work is provided to the women as a means of ending their homelessness.

Around Ocean County is back with Michael Holzer and Joan Mandel board of directors for Emergency Housing and Advocacy Program located in Freehold. This non profit organization has been in operation for 15 years and in a similar fashion, provides shelter, advocacy, clothing, job supprt and many other services for homeless men in the Freehold area. It has recently expanded to include homeless women. Area houses of worship open their doors to provide shelter for the men from December 1st through April 1st. Donations, volunteers are needed.
