How do you fix up that kitchen without taking on a remodel? Kitchen remodels are expensive. A basic one if you are paying a contractor typically costs over $70,000. We dive into some smaller DIY projects that can make it look so much better without spending the big dollars with a little hard work. How easy it is to paint a kitchen? What are the steps? We talk about this and so much more in the first hour of Around the House. Some of these same techniques can be used in a bathroom or just about any other room in your house. All this and more.

Have you ever wondered who lived in your house? When was it actually built? Did anyone famous live there? We talk with our friends Chris and Linda from History Attic Research. Does that name sound familiar? You might have seen them on the most recent DIY Network show Stone House Revival or with Kevin O'Connor from This Old House. We discuss some of the great finds and what steps they take in these research projects and what kind of information they find.

Here is what they do: History Attic will research the history of your home or building and property. Our goal with each project is to trace the ownership of the property as far back as records will allow (in Pennsylvania, this means to William Penn).

Our research involves pulling property deeds, consulting historic maps, visiting local historical societies, finding wills with property inventories, and reviewing census records.

The end result is a history of the property owners, their occupations, family stories, and a view of daily life - essentially, it's the genealogy of your home!

9 years ago, life changed in a huge way. It was the hardest day of my life and looking back it was one of the best results. So today is always a day of reflection.

My question for you is how put together is your plan if something went wrong? Could your spouse, business partner or business manager keep things moving if you were not there one day? What if you picked up with no notice and left without

internet or phone for three weeks? Could it function without you? Could someone even open the doors up? So, todays Pro Insider is about working to getting things set up where they are not all on you and making sure that things are well set up for the future…for everyone.

We try to settle the debate with who has the best pizza with all three, Eric G, Caroline B, and David Applebaum. David is known as the Architect of the Stars with a portfolio of clients that is the who’s who of Hollywood.

A little about David Applebaum: David Applebaum Architect creates beautiful works of architecture that are an expression of the life and taste of each client. Indeed, every commission is a uniquely choreographed blend of the client’s dreams, the setting’s personality, and the architect’s insight.

That insight comes from David Applebaum, the studio’s founder, and principal. David Applebaum takes direct charge of each project, bringing his experience and vision to the entire design and building process. One of Southern California’s most highly respected architects; he has proven himself equally adept with both historical and modern designs. Cuba Gooding Jr., Diane Keaton, Frank Sinatra, Rupert Murdoch, Brad Grey, Bob Hope, Manfred Simchowitz, and Jeff Ayeroff are just some of the celebrity clients who have chosen David Applebaum Architect to design their homes. Others like Quincy Jones, Esprit and Virgin Records turn to David Applebaum for their commercial work. Many more, far from the spotlight, also enjoy the studio’s brilliant design and incomparable service. David Applebaum graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Environmental Design from Texas A&M University in 1980. He earned a Master of Architecture from UCLA in 1984, where he was awarded Best Thesis Project. Prior to opening his studio, David Applebaum established his credentials and reputation for excellence at the architectural offices of Edward Grenzbach in Los Angeles, Franklin Israel in Los Angeles and Joseph D’Urso in New York City. David Applebaum has been licensed to practice Architecture in the State of California since 1990.

Currently David’s website is under construction, but he can be reached on social media or a phone call into his studio. He is very active on the Around the House show’s Facebook page and in Around the House nation closed group.
