Ars Arcanum

A coronation! The king reclaims his throne! Weird magic? We get ever closer to the endgame as the pages start to run out! We also argue a lot over whether or not Dilaf is an Elantrian.

Next time we will be reading Chapters 58-60!

Things are shaking up! But it's kinda hard to care. But hey! At least the secret is finally out! Does Prince Raoden is dead? Find out! Also, what is up with Hrathen. The minute his arc gets a resolution he started getting owned by everyone.

What is HAPPENING in this book? Brandon hits us with a fake nothing twist, some deeply weird racism, and a just depressingly mediocre Hrathen scene. It's another Ars Arcanum!

We're back with another action-packed...set of chapters...okay so we aren't. Raoden & Sarene are whiny and in love, Hrathen's butthurt, and Telrii is somehow the smartest guy in the room. It's a rough week in Arelon.

Things start spinning up in this week's chapters! As Raoden & Sarene have the most pointless drama possible, Hrathen is standing just offscreen collecting Ws and popping the biggest bottles.

In this episode, we spend some time discussing Helicopter Story by Isabel Fall and the transphobic harassment campaign that was raised up against her after its publication. We want to firmly voice our support for Fall, and our condemnation of the authors and fans responsible for the harassment she has received. If you feel like discussion of these topics might be triggering, we discuss them from about the 29 minute mark to the 50 minute mark, so feel free to jump ahead.

On a lighter note, Elantris is as always a terrible book. But at least it has Hrathen. Hrathen alone makes this a better book than anything Patrick Rothfuss has ever written.

Hi folks! Thanks for being patient with this episode as we adjust the schedule.

In this episode, Raoden continues to be Raoden, Sarene is a homophobe, and Hrathen wins. Hrathen always wins.

Next time we will be reading chapters 40-42 of Elantris! There may or may not be a skip week as Nora and I are on vacation. Or maybe we'll do one from Dallas, who knows!

Content warning for this episode! A character commits suicide and other characters casually joke about it. It's bad. Also the running joke about marital rape rears its head.

We change our mind. Raoden IS a colonizer. In the Sarene chapter, Raoden gets bored and offs a character as soon as he becomes interesting. And of course Hrathen is an absolute king. Just walking around doing king shit all the time.

Also we find... a dark secret hidden on Brandon's website and plan a patron bonus episode once we finish this book. So look forward to that at the end of the episode...

Next time we will be reading chapters 37-39 of Elantris! We feel so close to the finish line and yet so far.

Raoden is the most detestable protagonist in all of fiction. I loathe him. I despise him. I hate him so much.

On a lighter note: we've decided to go weekly from now until we finish this book! So we will be back in just seven days with more Elantris!

Brandon very nearly got one over on us again. He tried to make us say the book is good by giving us a fun Hrathen chapter, but we know the truth! We know Raoden is a jerk and a tyrant, and Sarene chapters are never enjoyable!

Also yknow. We talk about mistborn in fortnite. Did you hear about it? It's mistborn. in fortnite.

Next time, we cross our fingers and hope Hrathen gets more than 1 page, but don't hold your breath as we read chapters 31-33.
