Recently I had a chance to sit down with Reed Streva, the host of the podcast Cajun Kingdom of Priest. I share in the same common priesthood of Jesus Christ as all validly Baptized Christians within the laity who have not been ordained to the Sacrament of Holy Orders. However, as the high priest of my domestic church, the one that consists of my wife and children I have been called to lay my life down for their eternal benefit just as Christ did for his bride the Church. Art of Suffering Show Notes: Episode 14

Sometimes when we don’t know who we are, we can’t ever come to terms with who God is. Living a false narrative of what the world perceives us to be is much easier than the transformation that leads to becoming who Christ created us to be. As a young husband and father, I got so caught up being the main character in the story I was writing that I failed to realize I was just the supporting cast in the one God was. It became clear in the midst of my “yes” to the cross that what I did in this life didn’t define who I was now or will be in the next. This is the journey of how a young husband and father grew to understand that redemptive suffering in and through Jesus Christ is the only path one can take to achieve personal holiness. (Mat. 7:13-14)

Art of Suffering Show Notes: Episode 13

With the cloud of the sexual abuse scandals, diminishing numbers of Mass attendees, poor Evangelization and Catechesis efforts by the clergy and laity alike, the Coronavirus, and the secularization of American and its mantra for tolerance for everything except an authentic Christian worldview, it’s not hard to see why adult converts to the Catholic faith are diminishing. That’s what makes Anber Sims, who faced multiple crosses before, during, and after her choice to enter the Catholic Church and her personal story that much more powerful. It’s no wonder that the beauty of redemptive suffering spoke so deep in her heart that it spurred a decision to leave behind the faith tradition of her youth in a relentless pursuit of the fullness of truth.

We all have giants to face our life, and many times they come at the most unexpected or inconvenient times possible. When facing the fear of the unknown we can choose to trust in God or lose hope and dependent only on ourselves. When Nicole Wynne received an annual mammogram in apparent good health and as a recommended medical precaution she tragically received a diagnosis that wasn’t conceived possible. In this moving episode, Nicole and her husband Collin share their family’s paschal mystery in her battle against breast cancer that drew them closer to Christ and brought about tremendous growth in their Catholic faith.
