  • "The delicious spectacle" of Citizen Trump

He has borrowed from the language of the left and the dispossessed. And like many demagogues before him he talks over and over of that undefinable concept: "the people". Nonetheless, he is a product of our "society of spectacle", a plutocrat who has assembled a cabinet of idiosyncratic mavericks and "outsiders". Here we listen to pro and anti Trump journalists plus dissect his inaugural speech and discuss what it will really be like for his supporters, American consumers and the rest of the world if Trump's vision of anti-global "America First" policies are really implemented. All to play for, judging by the first few days of his administration. As a musical tip we end with John Mellencamp. With Juan Toledo and Andre López Turner

¿Importa o no diferenciarlas?

• Biography: The Art of Serious Gossiping

Why is biography a literary genre so common in the English speaking world but much less so in other languages? Are the anglophones more serious gossipers than the rest of us? In search of answers we conversed with two very successful biographers: Elaine Feinstein and her son Adam Feinstein. She is a truly consummate femme de lettres who has written about the life of various Russian poets including the great Pushkin, Marina Tsvetayeva and Anna Akhmatova but also of her contemporary and friend Ted Hughes. In addition, she has published more than fifteen poetry collections containing her own translations plus ten radio plays and at least fifteen novels. Her son is the well known English biographer of Pablo Neruda and a versatile hispanist. Presented by Jorge Ramírez and Juan Toledo with tea and biscuits provided by our wonderful hostess.

  • Rage Against The Establishment: Populism and Popular
Now that populism, both of the left and the right, is the not so new currency of our times; we talked about the distinction between populism and popular. The political and philosophical bankruptcy of the former and the always unexpected emergence of the latter. We also mentioned the long fermented narratives of Brexit and Trumpism plus the role of Clinton, Blair and the Murdoch press. And for your delectation we marinated our conversation with Rage Against The Machine and Manic Street Preachers. With Andre López Turner and Juan Toledo

• Bob Dylan: A Nobel Act?
To Nobel or not to Nobel that is, sometimes, the question with the prizes given by the Swedish Academy. And in the case of Bob Dylan we could not substract ourselves from a conversation which goes to the core of what constitutes poetry or literature and their validity and relevance in these times that are changing. • Is Mexico a warning tale for our times?
A bit more than a century after the triumph of the first popular revolution of the 20th century, Mexico is facing a political, institutional and social crisis. The Sorrows of Mexico is a harrowing account of what could only be described as a plethora of modern Greek tragedies. We spoke to its English Editor, Bill Swainson, and with Emiliano Ruiz Parra, one of the many corageous journalists who have risked their lives to tell us  -in a masterful way-  how and why Mexico is now veering between carnival and apocalypse.
