  • History teaching in our schools: manufacturing identity
Is it possible to teach history at school without its jingoistic overtones and nation affirming narrative? Is there a point in teaching children with Muslim or Caribbean backgrounds about Tudor England or Roman Britain? Why the school's curriculum is so obsessed with Nazism but avoids talking about imperial Britain? How is history taught in New Zealand or Latin America? We spoke to an experienced GCSE and A-Level teacher, Michael Haddock, about all this and about Brexit plus those individual narratives hidden in our history text books. With Juan Toledo and André López Turner

  • Our Hypernormalised World

It was made by the BBC with a shoestring budget of less than £30K and now has become the documentary of our times. Adam Curtis' beguiling and persuasive Hypernormalisation is a warning of how our social yearning for a more reassuring and simplistic view of the world has helped myopic politicians, dictators and elite money-makers in creating a parallel reality of media and political manipulation where they know we know they are lying to us. It is a State run, a corporative and financially sponsored lie that has served not only as a preamble of our current fake news situation but also of the parade of inept populists who seem to be running the destiny of billions of people. So time to get real and listen to Andre López Turner and Juan Toledo.

  • Is Fake News the End of the Fourth State?
Nowadays we seem to consume news not necessarily to be informed but to corroborate and strengthen our own prejudices. The reign of the Fourth State is under attack and not only from Donald Trump but -more insidiously- from fake news, the individualised bubble world of social media and the PR ethos that dominates much of what we read, see and hear from "official" news outlets. We live in the epigrammatic world of Twitter and personalised forms of truths. In a world ruled by information, we now have its dialectic opposite: misinformation. With Juan Toledo, Andre López Turner and the melodies of U2 and Fleetwood Mac

  • How to Replace the Current Social Order

We live in disorientating times. One acute problem is that the democratic process is becoming a meaningless spectacle when confronting global issues like ecology degradation, continental poverty, youth unemployment, mass migration, political and financial corruption plus colluding geopolitical predators. In the 21st century the US is embarking on a massive cutting welfare programme to increase its already hyper-inflated defense budget. We spoke to Clive Menzies of Critical Thinking about Who rules? How and Why. We discussed possible models of coexistence to fight social hierarchies and how to rethink the idea of "progress." We departed musically with Take the Power Back by Rage Against the Machine. With Juan Toledo and Andre López Turner

  • Steve Bannon: The Making of a Political Profiteer

There are many parallels between Trump's main strategist and the newly elected president. Both seem to be political profiteers and even fantasists. Men who have made the transition from the media and entertainment world into main stream politics. And like Trump, Bannon is also a Christian crusader telling the world that Islamic fundamentalists are going to take over the power and financial structures of the West. Similar to his boss, he is easier to mock and deride for his many contradictions than to be contested with a viable and desirable alternative. He now has a permanent seat at the National Security Council so we looked at his past and some of his political claims. With Andre López Turner and Juan Toledo plus Re-Flex and The Politics of Dancing
