amazingly marvelous

we breathlessly knew
that we were meant to be
always just me and you
nothing else would ever do
Each touch of your fingertips
would so quickly eclipse
any pleasure that I’d ever known
you brought a high state of bliss
when you were absent I’d miss
your warm eyes and your smile
and your hungry lips
we were the perfect mix
We liked all the same things
our relation-ship was a yacht
after I’d been so used to canoes
we'd sail love’s many waters
and the only blues we ever knew
was when we snoozed because
I had to be away from you
and you did too…..
Ours was a passion not
“like everything else.”
too many others around us
put their love’s love on a shelf
worshipping only them self
but this was not what we felt
we made each other melt....
But sadly soon things began to blur
and our love that was rare
suddenly grew obscure
thought we tried to endure
our hearts both took detours
falling to new love’s lures.
As we chose to retire
love that had lost it’s fire
absent of all desire
I guess we became tired
as our marvelous love
and our breathtaking kisses
were now not meant to be...
Your absence went unnoticed
for I was only focused
on the new love I’d found
now that you weren’t around.
Until one day I realized
as I thought back on you
that our most perfect love
had become so unglued
and had suddenly grew
into something more common
like everything else
and it made me feel blue.

What will be remembered?.
It's not the money that you made,
or the titles that you gained,
or the hours that you stayed
long after all the others
had gone on home.
This is all part of whatever
job you have undertaken.
It is expected by those
who are your higher ups
and they will occasionally
promote you or grant you a raise.
That is how they will remember you
and your dedicated efforts,
for all of your working days.
But what will not be remembered
nor cherished is your anger that
creeps into your persona.
Your curt words and your sarcasm.
Your snide remarks
plus your scowls and frowns.
They will all be shuffled to the back
of the memories of those you hurt.
What will always be remembered
will be your kind face, your smile
and the love you share
with all your fellow men.
Your gentleness with your family,
each kiss that you pressed tenderly,
and all that you gave to charitiy
Arguments are not worth carrying.
They weigh down your souls
so just bury them.
But the loving words that you spoke to
your dear husband or wife will be
Remembered through all of their lives,
How you helped your friends
and even strangers in
small ways or even in life changers,
all of these will be your
most valued remainders
When your last breath is finally taken,
you will leave many feeling forsaken
on the new journey you are taking.
And don't kid yourself
the God who was responsible for your making

and your sad gaze on my cheating face
as I sit and drown in endless beers

The weight of history
is pressing us down
making us small
it is a huge monkey
on our collective backs
Banging our heads
together like coconuts
because we do not learn
from what history has dealt us
we keep doing
the same things
over and over again
we pass on our past prejudices
to our children who also pass
them on to their children
like a huge communal torch of hate
that we fail to extinguish
bringing all the anguish
from the past into our homes
and our lives, polluting the minds
of our innocents who
too become guilty
of propagating the hate
we are all bent
under the weight
can we not shed it
like a rain soaked. tear soaked
heavy drenched sweater.
throw it free from us
look upon all humans
as being worthy of our love
and trust
and then sharing it
we could all stand tall
again and be giants
it starts with one
shaking off the sorrows
and heading towards
their tomorrows
with a new attitude
of love for all
cause all we really need is love
the rest will fall into place
regardless of faith or race
instead of our weary chase
to build a space
between all of those
who differ from us
Pass no one by
without understanding
that we all must try
to simply share love for all
with no reason why
except that it will reverse
what we have all
denied is happening
it’s time to lose the
tremendous weight of history
it’s pounds pain us
it’s pains pound us
and it will astound us
when we finally shed
the weight of all past hate
can’t we just start today
so that all of our children’s
and their children's
children can play
in nothing but a joyous way

is your picture
near where
your pillow
used to be
it reminds me
how I blindly lost
everything except
your memories
The spread on your
side of our bed
remains unwrinkled
left unhollowed
from your body
and each night I
look quite oddly
at that place you
used to occupy
till cruel death
chose for you to die
and I whisper endlessly Why???
At your headstone
I scream dammit
it’s the worst thing
I can’t stand it
after all the many ways
I took you being
here for granted
why couldn’t I
have gone with you
when life decided
you were through
I’ll lie in this bed
till I’m wrinkled
till I’m old and
grey without you
paying penance
to the many days
I never realized
that someday you’d
be gone but now
you have moved on
and your precious
soul I cherished
left me with just your
flesh that perished
lying beneath daily flowers
as I count the
endless hours
of sweet memories that I’ve lost

Love is a most healing balm
filling two lives with calm
