Bubba's Diner- Home Of The Five Cent Coffee.
My coffee stained
pottery cup,
sits sepia toned by years of
pick me ups and set me downs,
holding a caffeine-laced fix
beneath my bloodshot eyes.
The clatter of dishes and tongues
scrambled like my eggs surrounds me.
The old vinyl stools
in chrome and scarlet poses,
rise in a food speckled formation,
each covered red cushion
cracked from the spread
of weary derrieres,
The waitress,
a former 1962 barbie doll,
has a beehive hairdo
heavily sprayed
and well behaved.
no wisps of hair
to pester her forehead.
Her fading beauty revealed
in a weary smile,
as she queries,
"More coffee, sir."
I nod and she refills
my adrenaline level.
while overly tattooed
but skilled short order chefs
dance nimbly in
the rectangle window.
In greasy, once white aprons,
they flip pancakes off,
tan plump sausage,
and roach the burnt
hash browns.
This old train car
holds a few ghosts,
flitting behind me
they were on their
way to forever,
but their exit was derailed.
Now it squats by a highway
that leads to Anytown U.S.A.
Each diner in this diner
takes a momentary pause
from their long journeys
to destinations unknown.
They chew the fat,
perusing the news,
and stick chewing
gum mementos.
under the peeling
linoleum tabletops.
I rise to pay my check,
dropping a couple
of dead presidents
from my capital,
and duck out
into the sleeting rain,
with a belly full of grub,
and a nostalgic nose full
of yesterdays revisited.

as far back as I was a child
sharing some flapjacks
with strawberries and
whipped cream with
my sister in days of old
and my pottery cup
sits on that countter
waiting to be cleansed
from the patron who just l;eft
and turned upside down
for the next one
who comes to call
in this fine cuisine establishment

Utterly lost
in the tangle
of your mendacity,
limbs flailing at
the woods that
became wouldn'ts
trying to find
the roots
of where our
love once bloomed.
My soul a knothole,
empty and dark
as I stagger through
the acres of aches,
following the endless
forked tongues
of the paths on
which you've led me,
leading only
to dead ends.
With only this
poet tree to
support me,
its strength
etched deeply in a
trunkful of sorrows,
I take a long pause,
to gather my thoughts.
Soon I will leave
the stunted growth
of our love,
by retracing the
trails of my tears,
marked by the tiny shoots
of green they've caused.
Perhaps these buds
of hope will guide me
to much stronger roots,

Uncompromising Love.
The woman in my life, must be my life,
sharing everything more, with nothing less,
for what is life without a woman to make
breathing worthwhile.
What good are two who are opposed,
aside from opposites attracting,
for it is the blend of what's opposite
that sweetens all that is flesh
and of course shared souls.
Anything besides this,
would be just a fraction,
a subtraction from two
that would eventually
divide into one.
When I love, it must be
more than just love,
for I have loved before
and not found anything more
than just love.
True beauty lies in the eyes,
all the rest, will fall to ruin,
even the finest cathedrals of worship,
whether of hips arched in passion,
or astounding monuments to God,
they all fall to ruin with time,
but the eyes they remain beautiful,
even in the pale blues of
a ninety year old lady.
I seek a woman, who like my shadow
will compliment my every move,
and likewise I will grant the same to her.
when my world grows dark
she will still be there,
but also dance laughing
with me in the sun,
for all of our days.
Even if we have to
disagree to be agreeable,
a co-promised compromise,
Remaining always faithful
which contains the rich fullness
of each one and only
U and I.
Love is a simple song, lyrical and lovely,
it is only when we try to scale it down,
or wail beyond its fragile melodies,
that we fail to find the woman in our lives.

Idaho the Italian bimbo
got very drunk on some
Minnie-soda and gin
she got s-Ohio that
she made a very Illinois
and threw up all
over her New Jersey.
Another lady
named Virginia
was concerned
and told the
bartender Jackson
to see if Idaho
was all right.
As he himself was
known as one of the
party Boise nodded
and replied "Alaska!"
but when he said "Hawaii??"
she made a Louisville
right into the
ladies rest room.
Maryland a bar waitress
who once set a record for
drinking Canada dry,
followed her and kindly
gave her a New York
peppermint patty to
clean her breath,
while she struggled at
Washing-ton's of gunk
off her soiled blouse.
Idaho looked up
and mumbled "thanks!"
and then said, "Juneau,
Iowa ...a lot of money
for all my drinks."
but Maryland smiled
and said
"Don't worry,
we'll just put it
on your Billings."
When Idaho was through
Macon herself presentable
she walked back
to the Maine
doors and went out
without a word.
Then she Dover
self into a Malibu
got Mobile
and Rhode Islands
of inebriation
to a New Haven
where she
lit up a Salem
took some
St. Joseph's aspirin
and found some rest
on her Davenport.

ahh, the goings on
in little sleazy bars all over
the country every Saturday night
and Fridays too
we'll never forge Ida-ho the bimbo
and how she left
her mark in a sleazy bar
and then walked off into the dark
to where she parked
and fell into a dreamless sleep
till the morning sun came peeping through
her windshield and woke her
to the state she was in
the state of Pitts burgh
with emphasis on the pits
which is what her life had become
since she drinks a bits
every nigh somewhere in
a sleaze bar east of sanity
where the hell else would it be except
east of Sanity......

In the space between my mind
and the emptiness of never-mind,
exists a place my soul longs to vacate to,
a world of possibilities lie tangent there.
There an unfinished song hums on,
a blank canvas hangs filled with
colorful arrays that stun the observer,
and books of poems capture the emotions
of the world at large in small script,
each spread open eager for my grasping.
I do not wander there often
for it requires great sacrifice,
we must sell a little bit of our reality
to find purchase in the fantasy of
what is not yet conceived.
Long disembodied hours in another realm,
where the spirits of all who ever created,
anything of beauty haunt the mists,
and grace one's heart with
the bliss of inspiration.
