Dude. Ben Sharp of Cloudkicker. I seriously can't believe how blessed I am with the guests Stephen and I have been able to get on this show. Ben Sharp is a bit tricky to book for a show. He's a commercial airline pilot so he's either totally home or totally not. I caught him at his new Pittsburgh home. Such great conversation. Ben Sharp took his show on the road with Intronaut. Ok wait, I mean his band WAS Intronaut. That's crazy enough, right? Intronaut is incredible...and Ben borrowed them for a tour. What a cool story!!! He talks a bit about his first, only, and as of now last (?) tour. What Ben Sharp is doing with Cloudkicker is the ultimate example of DIY. We respect that here at ATSG. Thanks to John Petkau for introducing me to Cloudkicker.

Bruce Fitzhugh of Living Sacrifice joins the story with many of his own stories. Ya'll ain't gunna believe this one. LOTS of music in this chapter. We discuss Mark Fields, Stryper, live Quicksand and Hum. Trav embarrasses himself with a story that Bruce can't even remember. Fitzhugh talks about what he's doing now at Manhead Merch. We discuss a lot of older Living Sacrifice, DJ, early albums...lots of old school Living Sacrifice fans will dig this stuff. Bruce Fitzhugh was heavily influenced by the DC scene and it pokes it's head in a lot of places you may not expect it. Bruce gets into the R.E.X. debacle and what lead Living Sacrifice to Solid State (...turns out Brandon Ebel may be a stalker.)

Jamie Holmes is a self-made man. Jamie has been a cornerstone in the punk and indie Lehigh Valley PA scene as the owner of Double Decker Records. Double Decker started back in 96 and still going strong. Listen to how Jamie had do duck and weave his way to remain relevant for almost twenty years. There is so much to know, but it remains the same as every other story: the most important tool is flexibility. Jamie knows what he's doing. Then we are joined by his associates Ray Gurz and Chris Bickert. Ray is the leader of the band Tile as well as another called Bad American. (I shoved a Tile song in here for you somewhere...) Chris is not only the nicest guy ever, he's also Braid's tour manager (Don't believe me? Bob Nanna himself said so in Chapter 12.) Plus he brought donuts. These are the people in my neighborhood...in my neighborhood...in my neighborhood...but they're in your neighborhood now, too thanks to the magic of podcasting. Enjoy. (No donuts though...)

Sure there are a lot of musician stories, but how many of them ACTUALLY walked away from college to do it? Daniel Gailey has that exact story. Dan had a full wrestling scolarship to college and opted to shred guitars instead. It is so great to see how far he has come in such a short amount of time. Dan Gailey seems to have a niche of being able to step in, learn quick and improve upon the guitar in metal bands. This 26 year old is an old metal soul who isn't ashamed to solo. Oh...and there's a little tease with some BTA news...shhhh....it's a secret...
Onto Phinehas, who are poised to become the next kings of the Christian metal mountain. Dan has had one, no that isn't a typo, one live practice with Phinehas. One. Think about that. Phinehas is unashamed, proud and just crushing every tour in their path including the next biggie in October. Ryan Downey is the senior editor for Alternative Press magazine, started his own band management company called Superhero Mgt. managing Greg Puciato and Killer Be Killed, Demon Hunter, The Atlas Moth and Throwdown. Ryan Downey has worked for MTV and used to be the vocalist for Burn It Down. It's ridiculous that Ryan found time to be home let alone talk to Trav and this chapters guest host Seth W.
I'll sum this whole chapter up for you by quoting Ryan J Downey in saying that the music industry is "more assholes fighting over less stuff". The opening Coalesce story is...a zinger. Wow. Ryan explains what it means and doesn't mean to be a band manager. There's a lot in this one and I recommend taking notes. Plus...there is a Dave Elitch drummer drama story in here about Killer Be Killed that has...bum bum bummmm...never been told before. So much insight in this one you'll need to visit it twice.
