How to Stop Procrastinating ~ Overcoming the Habit of Delaying Important Tasks | The Dream Matrix | Dr. Rick Wallace  

I often say procrastination is the thief of time but is also the thief of opportunity. Procrastination represents a type of arrogance that assumes that God/life owes you a second chance tomorrow to do what should have been done today. The windows of opportunity close --- they are not forever!   There is a common phrase that says, "what's for me is for me!" You have to be very careful with that statement because what's for you is for you if you actively seize it. Nothing is guaranteed. Inactivity offers nothing but emptiness and frustrated hopes.   

Are you a procrastinator? If you want more out of life, you will have to conquer the curse of procrastination. The good news is that you can do it.

Recognize That You’re Procrastinating You might be putting off a task because you’ve had to re-prioritize your workload. If you’re briefly delaying an important task for a genuinely good reason, then you aren’t necessarily procrastinating. However, if you start to put things off indefinitely, or switch focus because you want to avoid doing something, then you probably are.  

You may also be procrastinating if you:  

~ Fill your day with low-priority tasks. 

~ Leave an item on your To-Do list for a long time, even though it’s important. 

~ Read emails several times over without making a decision on what to do with them. 

~ Start a high-priority task and then go off to make a coffee. 

~ Fill your time with unimportant tasks that other people ask you to do, instead of getting on with the important tasks already on your list. 

~ Wait to be in the “right mood,” or wait for the “right time” to tackle a task.  

After you confirm that you are procrastinating, you will need to take deliberate action:  

1. Work out why you are procrastinating  

2. Adapt proven anti-procrastination strategies 

3. Become accountable to yourself and others

Inactivity Is a Form of Quitting ~ Get Back to Work | Dr. Rick Wallace  

Don't be the reason your competitor is smiling. What I mean is I wake up every morning smiling because I know that the vast majority of people that are competing for the space I occupy or holding space I desire are lazy.   

At a young age, my great-grandmother told me that whether I liked it or not, my skin was going to work against me. She told me that others would have headstarts and be given opportunities that I would not. She made it clear that I would have to outwork and outperform them just to gain equal footing.   

So, you know how I catch those who were given a headstart in this race. I work while they are sleeping. I work while they are lounging. I work while they are reveling in their momentary advantages.   

Look, I understand that things may be tough right now. I get it. You may be facing one of the toughest times in your life. I refer to these times as winter moments. It is just plain cold out there. What you have to understand is that winter does not last forever. Spring is coming, but you can't be caught standing still. You should be working to build momentum.   

Here is a very important point that you must understand. Spring is coming, but spring is not forever. You must see your spring as the window of opportunity, and we all know that windows close; therefore, you have to seize the opportunities in your spring moment. Your inactivity is tantamount to quitting. Just because you haven't acknowledged that you have quit --- that you haven't given up, does not mean that you haven't.   Get up and make something happened today.

Get it Done ~ No More Excuses ~ Stop Procrastinating ~ Procrastination Is the Thief of Time!

I read a statement that really put things in perspective. It simply said, "Procrastination is the arrogant assumption that God/life owes you another  opportunity to do what you had time to do today."

We move around as if tomorrow is promised, lacking the resipiscence that tomorrow holds its own challenges and expectations. We allow fear to permeate the orifices of our thoughts and paralyze us from taking the actions that can literally change our lives.

Procrastination isn't just a lack of action, it is a frame of mind --- a frame of mind that dares to think time and opportunity are promised. If there is anything these times should have thought us, it is that life is fleeting. There is no such thing as perfect timing. There is no such thing as the perfect opportunity.

We love to complain about outcomes but we consistently fail to examine causations and origins pertaining to our poor outcomes. You cannot spurn the importance of the family nucleus without consequence. As the Black family nucleus has disintegrated, we have experienced a parallel declined in multitudinous areas.   

While we are pointing fingers, we must also be willing to look within.
