Today, we also use them for drinking glasses, vases, and even candle holders! it all started in 1858 when John Landis Mason invented and patented the glass jar and unique screw top to make canning safer and easier.​ before that people preserved food in sealed containers with a wax-sealed method was complicated and often ineffective. Then after the patent expired, many companies such as Hero Fruit Jar Company, and Consolidated Fruit Jar company took the opportunity to bank on the design....and probably the most famous to cash in...
