A snarky, metaphysics-soaked reminder that human rights didn’t fall out of the sky — they sprang from a single explosive revelation:

You bear God’s image.

And the modern world is still coasting on that shockwave.

Some folks love to say, “Equality is obvious.”

Really?

Nothing about it is obvious.

Look at humanity for five seconds:

taller / shorter, stronger / weaker, brilliant / not-so-brilliant.

The most self-evident truth is that we are not equal in any natural sense.

To get equality, you need something super-natural —

something no pagan myth ever stumbled within a mile of.

Because in the old stories?

We were cosmic jokes, factory workers for irritable gods,

or the accidental runoff of divine misbehavior.

Not one myth dared to say,

“You carry God’s image.”

Then Scripture detonated in the ancient world:

“Let Us make man in Our image.”

A sentence that toppled tyrannies, lifted slaves,

and rewired civilization from the inside out.

Human rights aren’t self-evident.

They’re Judeo-Christian.

Full stop.

And every time the secular world invokes equality,

it’s quoting Genesis with the citation scrubbed off.

Some folks love to say, “Christians have done bad things — checkmate, Catholicism.”

Right — because the presence of sick people in a hospital proves the hospital isn’t real?

From day one, the Church began with a failing grade:

One hand-picked apostle sold Jesus for pocket change.

Another denied Him three times before sunrise.

The rest scattered like cats in a thunderstorm.

If betrayal, cowardice, and scandal disproved the Church…

Christianity would’ve ended in the upper room.

And yes — we’ve had bad popes, corrupt clergy, compromised leaders.

But that’s not a Church issue.

That’s a human one.

As Frank Herbert put it:

It’s not that power corrupts —

it’s that the corruptible are drawn to power in every institution:

schools, governments, corporations, scouting groups, ministries…

Why would the Church be the only place immune?

Here’s the miracle:

Despite twenty centuries of sinners,

the Gospel didn’t change.

The sacraments didn’t break.

The doctrine didn’t rot.

Grace kept healing people anyway.

The Church was never meant to be a trophy room for the perfect.

It’s triage for the wounded.

A hospital for sinners —

and only at the end will it become a mansion for saints.

We’re talking about the fullness of truth, not intelligence or sincerity — and many of our Protestant brothers and sisters use the cards they do have with more zeal than most Catholics.

Servants who bury their gifts lose everything.

A full deck is a gift — but Heaven expects a return.
