  • HEALING From Violence in Our Schools -Rerun
During this holiday season, the staff of White Apple Institute  joins the many families and friends in their grief and celebration of life for the innocent lives lost to random shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary, Columbine, Virginia Tech, Arapahoe and so many more. Also, let us not forget the victims of gang violence in urban area schools whether the tragedy is caused by automatic or single-shot handguns.
Healing, both physical and psychological healing is a process of restoring a situation to a balanced or functioning state. The emotional scars in the healing process are usually seen or felt long after the traumatic situation or damage is over. Repairing or restoring our mental/emotional state is far more challenging than fixing the physical wounds.  Psychological healing from the shootings at schools in urban, suburban or rural areas is a tremendous challenge for concerned citizens of America and the world.  The Student2teacher show has always focused on topics that will help students and teachers succeed in school/college and work, even with mental and physical disabilities.

  • Quality of Life for Students and Teachers (Rerun)
One of the greatest concerns that remain characteristic of our world is how a person can improve their quality of life. Do you believe teachers improve the “Quality of Life” for students and Veterans? How do  the values and attitudes of parents and teachers influence student performance?. Most people, with the exception of teachers, assume a better life and job are based on our material possessions that we call valuable. However, most teachers focus on the intangible rewards of their “job” as most valuable. The staff of White Apple Institute encourages Listeners to look at what we call valuable and what things we need to succeed at school and work. Special Guest Jennifer Ramirez, Author, Teacher. Hear a special mention of the late Nelson Mandela at the close of this show. • Attention: Student Shootings On & Off Campus (Rerun)
Listen to this rebroadcast to understand what Adult Learners, Teachers and Student Veterans are saying about overcoming the negative attention being paid to persons with mental illness. Unfortunately, when a shooter is arrested for possession or use of a firearm/gun on school premises more emphasis is placed on his diagnoses of Mental Disorders. Join Host, Dr. Danita Applewhite and guests in reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness. It is an injustice that most persons in our society pay minimal attention to the disparities in the mental health system until there is a “real” threat.  Listen to the episodes of the Student2Teacher ™ show any day of the week and see our schedule of LIVE shows by visiting the RADIO section at www.whiteappleinstitute.org . • Students and Veterans Overcoming Depression and Suicide
Are suicide prevention programs working? How do you know if you or someone you know is having suicidal thoughts? These are the questions many adult students, including Student Veterans, are asking as they witness more reports of depression and suicide attempts on college campuses. In consideration, that over 70% of college students are categorized as adult or non-traditional students, there is concern that education and awareness is not very accessible to this group. Dr. Danita Applewhite and guests question whether the type of suicide prevention information available is addressing how stress, depression, disability can lead to suicide. In addition, many adult learners are completing online classes and degrees while managing the responsibility of a family, pressures at work, and physical and emotional challenges. Obviously, they need as much or even more support than the average student, especially Student Veterans adjusting to civilian life. Join our Special Guests Melinda Vail, Intuitive Therapist and Steve Schiro, Educator as they share information on the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention "Out of the Darkness Walks". To participate on the LIVE show call 1-646-727-3758, 10-11am (AZ-MTN).
Veterans will share encouraging stories about overcoming PTSD and suicidal ideas to succeed in life. To learn more visit www.whiteappleinstitute.org and click on Radio to listen to archived shows anytime.   Your support on facebook, twitter, Linkedin is appreciated.

  • Students Discuss Healing From The Stress of Racism (RERUN)
The anxiety and stress from racism has affected people of all races and ethnicities, especially African-Americans! It is anticipated that our discussion will encourage teachers and counselors of adults to explore the psychological impact of racism in African-American students of all ages.  The media continues to place great attention on George Zimmerman and the murder of Trayvon Martin and the many broken hearts over the verdict. Political and media hype continues shining light on the negative statistics associated with unemployment, education, and poverty of African-American males. Although the statistics are relevant, it is necessary that we shine light on the progress of African-Americans and how many people do "get along" regardless of race. Join Host, Dr. Applewhite, Dr. Beverly Johnson, and other teachers and Veterans in a positive discussion on ways to heal the scars of racism. Special Guest Dr. Beverly Johnson, is a retired professor from Arizona State University, and expert in Cultural Adaptive Therapy and Education.

  • Students Discuss the Reality of Discrimination
The term discrimination is too often associated with racism versus disability. In addition, racism and discrimination are frequently related in the U.S. media to the victimization of African-Americans and other Non-White groups by White Americans. As a result, African-American students with mental/learning or physical disabilities are often overlooked as they face the challenges of higher education and workforce success. Dr. Applewhite is joined by Special Guest Professor Kelmer Muhammad (Educator, Entrepreneur, Author) to discuss discrimination and realistic solutions. Veterans conclude our show with news updates for Student Veterans. Visit whiteappleinstitute.org and click on Radio for more information.

  • Having Trouble with Being the Parent and the Student?(Rerun)
There are a multitude of problems faced by parents who are also in school and working a full or part-time job. What makes it so difficult for them to balance all of the stress and work? Do they have to be "multi-taskers"? Dr. Applewhite invites parents, especially those with disabilities, to share their story, to discuss the challenges they experience and shares techniques to help parents improve their success. Veterans join our show with updates on available resources. • Students, Teachers, and Veterans Discuss Self-Esteem (LIVE)
It is common for Adult Learners, including Student Veterans, to experience periods of low self-esteem and related depression. This is reflected in their attitude and the way they perceive themselves before and after tests and job interviews. Many persons with disability (i.e., emotional challenges, invisible/learning/mental disabilities) are even more susceptible to negative images of themselves. Holding onto negative self-images will result in making excuses to justify dropping-out. Dr. Applewhite, Host, and special guests share techniques for raising self-esteem and changing our attitudes towards self and our world. • Understanding Students and Violence (Rerun)
Become part of the solution by listening and sharing what Students, Teachers, Veterans,  and parents are discussing, specifically those diagnosed with PTSD, Depression, Bipolar Disorder and more. Much of the violence we are experiencing in schools is blamed on students diagnosed with a mental disorder. However, society must take on some responsibility for the exposure to violence in early childhood. Join Dr. Applewhite and Special Guest Midge Noble, Child and Family Therapist and Author, in a very candid discussion that will help us understand how violent tendencies may begin and how to manage them.
