Eileen Daspro, clinical professor of international business at the University of San Diego, joined the "At the Edge of it All" podcast to talk about how studying abroad in Mexico led to a career in international business, why small businesses should take advantage of exporting internationally and how her business students are helping small businesses grow their international reach.

"At the Edge of It All" sat down with Matt Yepez, senior director of the Career Development Center at USD, to get some tips for applying for jobs. Yepez talks about some resources you have at your disposal that you might not even know about, and what it's like for employers and employees alike as Gen Z enters the workforce.

Dr. Paula Cordeiro, Dammeyer Distinguished Professor of Global Leadership and Education, joined “At the Edge of It All” to talk about the growing momentum behind social entrepreneurship and the concept of “business for good.” She explains some of the different ways companies around the world are reorganizing themselves, and why doing so is about more than good PR.

“At the Edge of It All” talked to Novien Yarber, PhD, director of leadership, philanthropy and social impact at The Nonprofit Institute at the University of San Diego, about his role helping leaders reach their full potential, tips for leaders to excel in their position, and his experience as a contestant on the dancing competition show, So You Think You Can Dance.

“At the Edge of It All” talked to Dr. Zhi-Yong Yin, professor of environmental and ocean sciences, about his work researching climates of the past, present and future. He explains how he used ancient trees to learn about rainy seasons from hundreds of years ago, the state of drought in California today, and what we can do to help address climate change.

As the Fall approaches, teens everywhere are getting ready to start an exciting new adventure: going off to college. Pauline Berryman Powell, assistant dean at the University of San Diego’s College of Arts and Sciences, joined “At the Edge of It All” to talk about some of the biggest challenges for students and parents alike during this time, and how she helps them navigate those.

Rachel Locke, director of the University of San Diego's Violence, Inequality and Power (VIP) Lab, returned to "At the Edge of It All" to discuss her research, done in partnership with Carl Luna and the Institute for Civil Civic Engagement (ICCE), examining threats and harassment against elected officials in San Diego. Those officials range from the mayor and county supervisors to school board officials. Aggression, Locke says, cuts across party lines, and her research shows it's having a demonstrable impact.

Nikolas Behar, adjunct cybersecurity professor, joined "At the Edge of It All" to give an inside look at the world of cybersecurity. He explains how "ethical" hackers work to stave off bad actors, and discusses the steps both companies and individuals can take to protect themselves.

"At the Edge of It All" was joined by Paulina Díaz-Montiel, assistant professor of mechanical engineering at the University of San Diego, to talk about her research into what causes composite materials used to build mechanisms like airplanes, race cars, and space rockets -- to fail. She also discusses the recent Titanic submersible implosion, what the future of composite materials looks like, and increasing diversity in STEM fields.
