Attack & Dethrone GodCast episodes

  • ADG #10 | California Ideology, The Randian Wet Dreams That Keep Us Up At Night, & A Crunk In Time (w/ Colin Boyd-Bigby)

We recorded this episode on Mike's birthday, so while he was tripping on the gland secretions of some desert toad he found, friend of the podcast Colin Boyd-Bigby stepped in to fill in his shoes. The focus of this episode revolves in great part around the Adam Curtis BBC documentary series All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace. We discuss Ayn Rand's Objectivist philosophy, her novels The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, and the outsized influence her work has had on the political, economic, and technological development in the United States.

This episode features a segment of Ayn Rand's interview with Mike Wallace in 1959, and the song Crunk In Time by Wukileak.

  • ADG #9: Last Van In The Wilderness: The Precarious Narrative Of Nomadland & Building The Cult Of ADG

We return to discuss the Academy Award-winning film Nomadland, directed by Chloé Zhao and starring Frances McDormand. We discuss the off-grid, nomadic life portrayed in the film and present some of our critiques of it -- what it lacks or altogether avoids to address throughout its narrative, displaying the precarity of contemporary life within the United States during an economic recession. Mike especially provides personal insights into the subject, as he lives in an intentional, somewhat off-grid community himself, and details the many things the film got right. We also then, jokingly, discuss our plans to form a cult with Mike at the helm, acknowledging how good he would look in an all-white suit leading our congregation of followers into the End of Days.

  • ADG #8 | Attack n' Dethrone Dog-cast: Cancel [Cult]ure Wars Edition (thanks for bein' a friend)

ADG returns. Forrest discusses his recent travails, including his experience of the widespread power outages in Texas several weeks ago, and the contrarianism of so-called "leftists" since the pandemic began last year. We also admit how damn sappy we all are, and express our love of our animal friends, and reflect on how the loss of pets is one of the hardest things to bear in life.

From there, we address "cancel culture," both in the overly-simplistic variety we see in popular culture today, and the more complex and nuanced view we present in this discussion, including the decision Patrick has made to deplatform several individuals from Last Born In The Wilderness.

Songs featured are "A Friend" by KRS-One and The Golden Girls theme song

  • ADG #7 | GO Z*CK YOURSELF, ZUCK! ╭∩╮(︶︿︶)╭∩╮(Rest in piss, Rush) w/ Kenn Orphan

Kenn Orphan joins Mike, Jeff, and Patrick for this episode of Attack & Dethrone for a wide-ranging conversation about.... practically everything. Social media censorship and the digital commons, the power grid failure in Texas (Forrest couldn't join us because of it... he lives in Houston), rising fascism in the US, shitty jobs and the perils of being a working class person, and -- as always -- collapse and the Empire eating itself alive.

Kenn is an artist, writer, radical nature lover, antiwar and anti-capitalist activist, sociologist, spiritualist and hospice social worker. He writes about art and culture, socio-economic injustice, geopolitical issues, philosophy, and the existential threats we collectively face from corporate capitalism, the war industry, climate change and an ever imperiled biosphere. His work focuses on the desperate need for a global paradigm shift that fosters compassion for and solidarity with the suffering of humanity and the countless other species with whom we share this precious planet.

The audio featured in this episode includes the song Swagger by 欣然丫, Rush Limbaugh being an absolute racist bucket of piss, and the trailer to Canadian Bacon.

  • ADG #6 | Clusterf**k At The Capitol (The QAnon Shaman Needs A Ham Sandwich) & The Horrors Of Getting A**blasted By A Dodge Avenger (w/ Jordan Thornquest)

The crew returns to Attack & Dethrone to discuss the Capitol siege on January 6th in Washington DC, including the outright absurdity of the event, and the implications of what may come next as the United States continues its steady and predictable descent into reactionary, conspiracy-laden political suicide.

For the first hour, friend of the podcast and theme song producer Jordan Thornquest regales us with a personal saga and provides answers to these very important questions: 1) what does it really feel like to be a**blasted by a Dodge Avenger?; and 2) what are the real costs of being life-flighted to a Boise hospital on a private plane, wait 14 hours for treatment in the ER as the coronavirus pandemic rages and overwhelms the state's hospitals, all while your grandmother attends a local city council meeting to denounce a proposed mask mandate, stating that the surging numbers of COVID-19 patients in Idaho's hospitals is a fat lie based on "fear"? Jordan answers these questions and more!

The latter half of the episode focuses around Jeff, Forrest, Mike, and Patrick providing their predictions of what the new year will bring as we approach the end of the Trump presidency and prepare for the upcoming Biden administration. This includes a reading of Kenn Orphan’s article Warnings from Weimar, which goes a little something like this:

"There are many similarities of current day American politics to the final years of the Weimar Republic of the early 20th century: a bureaucratic plutocracy governed by out of touch liberal capitalists, incapable of understanding, let alone meeting, the needs of ordinary working people, in a nation where factions of the left foolishly downplayed the looming threat of the far right. This terrible recipe created the conditions that led many Germans to feel increasingly alienated from public life, and thus easily manipulated by nationalism, racism and the scapegoating of all of their problems.

"In the coming months and years, we will likely see more platitudes about unity, all while civil liberties are ruthlessly crushed by an already bloated surveillance state in the name of stopping “domestic terrorism.” It is not likely, however, that we will see any meaningful economic reforms, or the radical change that is needed to stem the rising tide of fascist sentiment, from the incoming administration either. No living wage. No universal healthcare, even in the midst of a pandemic. We will also likely see erstwhile or confused leftists attempting to align with elements of the far right. A venture which will only lead to tragedy. And without a mass movement to disrupt this trend, a reincarnated Weimar Republic may serve as a handmaiden for a more terrifying fascism to come."
