Patrick hitchhiked across the US in the mid-80s with his friend Judd and a guitar, no plan, and a willingness to get into whatever came along. He shares one particular ride through West Texas in a beautiful Cadillac that started with beer and rotting Mexican food and got progressively stranger from there. Then Jeffrey Martin, whose gigapixel photography has taken him to the tops of buildings across the world, shares a story from Oaxaca that begins on church steps and ends somewhere nobody was expecting. Fair warning, Jeffrey's story contains graphic descriptions not suitable for the squeamish.

In 2005, Michael was hired to shoot a global still campaign for a major automotive brand, tasked with finding the world's longest, tallest, highest, and widest. Over two months he found himself at the world's highest active volcano in Ecuador, on the ice roads of the Canadian Arctic in 38 below zero, on the Silk Road in the Taklamakan Desert, and back in Shanghai, where a long last night at the Peace Hotel took a turn that ended in a Chinese police station and one of the stranger conversations of his career.

In 2001, Lucy left the UK with a plan to travel around the world without using a plane. Over the next two years she went by train, bus, boat, yacht, donkey, and anything else that moved, reporting from some of the most difficult and dangerous places on earth along the way. Her stories span a Belarus train, a Cambodian jungle road, a Taliban country estate in Pakistan, a leaking yacht stranded in dead-calm Indonesian waters, and a detention center in Australia. And through all of it she was wearing pink.

In this week's episode of Atypical Daydream, host Josh Caldwell sits down with studio owner, record producer, and microphone wizard Manny Nieto.

In 2011, Manny bought a one-way ticket to Shanghai with a cover story, a backpack of microphones, and a plan to record underground punk and avant-garde bands across China. What followed was two years of navigating Cold War bunkers, lotus ponds, Rastafarian bars, and the constantly shifting rules of a country that was changing faster than he could keep up with. Then, about a year in, a border crossing between Hong Kong and Shenzhen didn't go the way it was supposed to, and Manny found himself in a police station with all his gear on the line and only one way out.
