Steven Leath is out after only two years as Auburn University's president. Why does it matter to the athletics department? The domino effect. Auburn administrators and coaches will be affected by the board of trustees' decision to kick Leath to the curb with a press release just before 10 p.m. on Friday. Jay Gogue, the former Auburn president, is back in office as the interim president. Will the micromanaging of the Auburn athletics department cease with Leath's departure? Will athletics director Allen Greene be allowed to finally operate without someone constantly breathing down his neck from Samford Hall? Oh, and there's the entire power structure of the board of trustees to discuss, particularly those who were aligned with Leath before his ouster by the board. What does it mean for football coach Gus Malzahn, whose seven-year, $49 million deal isn't popular with a lot of folks after it was negotiated and handled by Leath and board member Raymond Harbert, who seemingly has lost his voice in the fallout of this incredible soap opera.
