Chris almost put the lyrics from Metallica's Sad but True as the introduction to this episode, but then he remembered how many times he referenced "the evil powers of Rock 'n' Roll" during the recording. If Chris is going to rip off people cooler than him, he's going whole hog in ripping off people cooler than him, and the Supersuckers are much cooler than Chris. The Supersuckers are much cooler than most people.
From Link Wray's Rumble to Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven to Iron Maiden's The Number of the Beast to NWA's Straight Outta Compton, there has been a long history of society being terrified of certain forms of music, and during the 1980s, things got really weird. This had a very distinct effect on Chris and Matt during their formative years.
40 years later (Christ, we're old...), they're going to address this age-old question, "Does aggressive music create aggressive people?" Come listen to Chris and Matt discuss examples of 1980s media and their sensationalized reporting, the PMRC (Really, PMRC? Why did our parents love the Oldsmobile Cutlass? Which one was Dawn? Why were there so many songs about love? How did they fit 48 songs on a single LP? Or two 8 track cassettes? Why did bands have 4 lead singers? Why did so many musical artists have television variety shows? What is the power of Saratoga? What was he the captain of? Why did our parents love to wake us up on Saturday morning at 0700 to do clean the pool and do yard work? Most importantly, why did so much of their music suck?!?

Upon reflection, most episodes of the Audio Arcana podcast should be named Chris and Matt Ruin Everything. This episode is absolutely no exception. I think Chris and Matt were attempting to ruin St. Valentine's Day. As is par for the course, they're really late in doing so. It was a good try.
Anyhow, come join Chris and Matt in this episode where they discuss old books, sleep paralysis, chihuahuas, coffee shop singers, Dr. CHUD's backing vocals, Merlin and Stella, car thieves, Apartment 213, and how all these things correlate to their favorite creepy, obsessive, and psychotic love songs.
(Matt almost makes Chris cry this episode. They also get into a weird discussion about serial killers. Go figure. They discuss if Disney World is actually the happiest place on earth and why driving at night is the best time to drive. Finally, they manage to offend almost every nationality with their horrible accent impersonations. It's another really odd episode. You know what else Justin Timberlake never thought would happen? That two dinguses who don't listen to his music would quote his song lyrics to introduce the episode description of their podcast. Whether he meant to or not, Justin Timberlake nailed the sentiment of this episode. Chris and Matt secretly believe Timberlake is relatively proud of that.
This episode? This is a bitter-sweet stroll down Chris' and Matt's very passionate infatuations with artists and their music and what ultimately ended those passionate infatuations. Matt's choices are respectful, sweet, and thoughtful. Chris' choices are just bitter. (1987 was apparently not a good year for Chris musically speaking.) You know what they say, "All good things must pass."

2021 is done. 2022 is underway. You know what that means? It means it's time for Chris and Matt to talk a lot of nonsense about their first full year of podcasting. What did they get right? What did they get wrong? What else did they get wrong? What did they think they got right, but they actually kind of got wrong? Who was listening? Why were they listening? Who really knows? Chris and Matt certainly have no idea.
That being said, Chris and Matt truly enjoyed spending 2021 with all of you, and they greatly appreciate everyone who downloaded and listened. They're looking forward to spending 2022 with all of you every other week, and they miss Cameroon.
