Hey! Another episode of The Check-In with my friend Danielle Moodie. Today we discuss white supremacy and a whole host of other poisonous worldviews that are serving to keep all of us imprisoned in a world of exploitation and suffering and how we must overcome all of that to realize something better. Appreciate Danielle and appreciate everyone who tunes in.

Whew. This Check-In, like so many others, was so needed. Danielle Moodie and I talked about the vibes (spoiler: they’re bad) heading into the Fourth of July and the 250th anniversary this weekend. The realization that we have been scammed and are presently being scammed, as well as the ongoing gaslighting by political and economic elites, is a jarring thing, but we discuss the need to not only do that but to forgive ourselves as we begin to see the landscape and environment for what it actually is. I hope you find it cathartic but also motivating.

Oh, man. As the Democratic Party and corporate centrists everywhere freak out over Tuesday’s primary results, Danielle Moodie and I talked about the wake-up call that the party is either going to have to heed or face a fairly uncertain future. Here, we discuss the trajectory of the Democratic Party over the past few decades, wrestle with the popular fictions and myths the leaders both revel in and perpetuate, and how a very, very large reality check is coming for Democrats if they don’t abandon their current allegiance to corporate and billionaire donors and come to represent a population desperate for change.

It’s been way too long since I sat down with my friend Sarah Kendzior and got a lay of the land. We start things in a different place in this iteration. After a decade of discussing the gathering dangers of authoritarian kleptocracy, we began by sharing the signs we’re seeing of popular discontent and hope, including the rejection of traditional political narratives that obscure the actual conditions in this country and around the world, as well as the growing democratic movement against authoritarians of all stripes. Then, we survey the state of things, the rejection of corporate media and faux-resistance, and the need for a politics that cherishes human life and actually works to make the world better for everyone.
If you haven’t read them already, I cannot recommend Sarah’s books highly enough of her newsletter (link above) that is one of the most necessary reads in this moment.

Man, I needed today’s talk with Danielle Moodie. In this episode we talk about continued revelations regarding Democrats hanging out with Peter Theil and his secret society and the desperate need for many Americans to give up on comforting fictions, including a lot of what is being peddled by liberal corporate (and “independent”) media, in order to get into the fight before it’s too late. This conversation went in a lot of necessary directions. Thank you, as always, to the people who come out for the livestream and view it afterwards. Danielle and I are both absolutely independent without any kind of corporate backing, public or secret, so your support means everything to us. If this resonates with you, please consider sharing it with people who need to hear it and consider becoming a paid subscriber.

It was a joy to welcome David Roth of Defector back to Dispatches From A Collapsing State. David and I started the discussion with the abysmal and dismal UFC 250 event at the White House, the palpable lack of joy among Trump and his benefactors and how capitalism is just stripping the meaning from everything, the harvesting of organic happiness by corporations and the wealthy, and what we can learn from Zohran Mamdani’s tenure as mayor of New York City as we move away from a politics that is disastrously measured and, tragically, unsuccessful. And, finally, why we’re both feeling a sense of hope in the moment.
If you haven’t already, check out David’s invaluable contributions to understanding the mindsets and motivations of MAGA and the wealth class, as well as some of the best sports and cultural analysis out there.

Oh, and as promised, here’s James Dolan, the billionaire owner of the New York Knicks, absolutely killing it.

So, a few days ago I received an email from a subscriber who didn’t know I also hosted The Muckrake Podcast, which, honestly, was a mistake on my part because I hadn’t really advertised it on here. Anyway, I wanted to rectify that, so here is a special crossover episode of The Muckrake in the hopes of introducing listeners over there and readers over here to one another. In this episode, my co-host Nick Hauselman is out of town, so I hold down the desk to discuss the changing paradigm following Iran’s strikes against Israel in retaliation for attacks against Lebanon, the straining U.S./Israel relationship, from there I get into the Trump Administration dismantling one of the crown jewels of American science and the relationship to declining U.S. power, and, finally, I address the developing situation in Maine as we head into primaries and the Democratic Party faces one test after another.
Thank you, as always for your support. If you’d like to support The Muckrake and gain access to a bonus episode every Friday, as well as join the Discord where the community lives, head over to Patreon and become a patron. Thank you so much for the support here. I can’t tell you what a difference it makes.
