  • Carpet

At home, we had various carpets in our flat where we grew up. We mainly had single pieces and no fitted carpets. The carpets all had fringes at both ends and we even had a comb with which we could, or were allowed to, or had to, straighten them out nice and parallel again. If the fringes got mixed up because someone walked over them, it looked messy. Carpet fringes are really only an aesthetic embellishment and serve no functional purpose. But when the fringes are nicely aligned, the carpet also looks much more, somehow more valuable. I invite you to see the beauty and not the practicality or functionality in the people you meet today, and therefore to look at their individual beauty much more and enjoy it - it may well be that this is a door and access to your own unique beauty with which you were created.

  • Pin

Imagine you are standing in front of an armoured door with a handle. It is locked. Behind it is an incredible treasure. You have the key and can open the door. Everything is ready for you to get the great treasure. You unlock the door with the key, reach for the handle and want to open the door - but then you only have the handle in your hand: unfortunately, the little pin in the handle that locks it to the door is missing. Bad luck. You would have everything to get the treasure - but this little pin that is missing makes it impossible for you. Maybe you see yourself as insignificant in your environment, be it the workplace or the family or any other environment. But be encouraged by this comparison: without this small, insignificant pen, the treasure remains hidden. You are valuable because you are uniquely created. If you do not live your calling, then a great treasure remains hidden from this world. You have a purpose in life, you were consciously called into life. Follow this destiny so that the world can have the whole treasure.

  • Windscreen wiper

We were still small children when we once drove with our family to East Germany or GDR to visit our relatives. We had a relatively old, cheap car. It was raining heavily on the motorway and then the windscreen wiper broke. It became very dangerous for us without clear vision at the high speeds on the motorway and we had to find a service station that would repair the damage. In order for us to go through life safely and thus not be a danger to others, we have to be mindful that our basic functions in life are intact. This includes our emotions. Today, pay attention to how much your emotions, whatever they may be, influence your view. Do they help you to see clearly or are they so violent and overwhelming that they suspend other important perceptions or behaviours and you end up putting yourself in danger or endangering others with your reactions? Maybe it's time for an emotional health check and even to seek external help.

  • Actors

Do you have a favourite actor or actress? If yes - why is he or she this? For me, it's because I'm simply impressed by that person. They embody something that impresses me or fascinates me or is or has something that I would also like to have or be. I take this for me as a motivation that my development is not over yet. So a role model with attainability, not one that is unattainable. In this way, I am motivated to consciously train certain character traits, for example, or to consciously discard others and no longer do them because a reaction of someone in a certain situation has made such an impression on me that I also want to acquire it. I hope you also have such stepping stones that make you even more the person you were created to be. Not as an act but in reality.

  • Cloths

Are you a user of flannels? So it's a piece of cloth that you wet to wash yourself with? It's super practical. You can do a good cleaning job with it - better than with your bare hands. Just a piece of cloth. But it makes a difference. When you go through your day today and look back at the end, you might also think: what have I done today? Or said? Why don't you assume that your contributions - as ordinary and inconspicuous as they may be in your eyes - are very valuable to someone else. Wouldn't you then behave much more mindfully, self-confidently and purposefully? Then do it too! You will certainly experience your day much more satisfactorily.

  • Wallet

In our language, we have borrowed some terms from other languages. In Switzerland, for example, we don't actually speak of a purse, but say Portemonnaie, a French term. A wallet is probably already a discontinued model, because today we tend to pay with cards or mobile phones or online. But the wallet has the advantage that the money is usually stored there - and not spread out somewhere in various pockets or items of clothing. It helps us to keep our money in order and to access it quickly when we need it, for example at the checkout. What about your feelings? Do you have such a container for them, especially for difficult ones, in which you can store them and access them as needed? That sometimes helps because then you are not overwhelmed by them all the time and have hardly any energy left for anything else. Maybe it helps you today to put certain emotions in a certain place in your life, not to deny them, but to give them a place - and then other things have more space and you are freer.

  • Taking a bath

I recently saw a bird washing itself in a puddle in the park. It was beautiful to watch and it made my heart happy. It made me think of the paradise story: how everything was originally good and for the joy of man. Nothing of what we need today as motivations or satisfaction etc. existed there: no smartphone, no tedious work, no money not even shopping - nobody wore clothes anyway - and yet the place was full of joy. I felt that when I watched this bird taking his bath. A remnant from those days. I believe that such remnants can still be found today and remind us of our original purpose. I wish you that you can recognise, perceive, enjoy and lose yourself in such moments on this very day - to be completely you for a moment in your most original design.

  • Magnifying glass

A magnifying glass is something fascinating. It lets me see things in greater detail than I would see them just with my eyes. That means I see things at all or in finer resolution. So a cut glass makes things accessible to me that I would otherwise not perceive. For me, this means that my perception is limited. The magnifying glass does not create anything new, but simply shows me more of what is already there, but which I do not perceive normally, so to speak. Such an aid in the natural or such an aid for our natural perception also exists for our spiritual perception. This makes us more sensitive to what is there: moods, atmospheres, realities in the invisible world. And with it, I can also tackle unpleasant things in this area in a more targeted way - just as a magnifying glass helps me when I have to remove a piece of glass from my skin. But it takes our decision to use these tools consciously.

  • Thermos mug

When I'm on the train, I like to drink a coffee. And I like it hot. In paper cups it cools down quickly and paper cups are not very sustainable, ecologically. A thermos cup is ingenious: I can use it several times and the coffee stays nice and hot. I am grateful for such inventions, as simple as they may be. When I think about it, so many things come to my mind that I take for granted in everyday life without being aware of their value: a key that gives me access or locks precious things safely, a tap that I can simply open and that gives me hot or cold water as needed at any time, a warm blanket at night, and so on. So, this statement of Jesus spontaneously comes to my mind: "and yet their heavenly Father feeds them". With all our efforts and our own efforts - I feel so well provided for by the heavenly Father, also with good relationships. How well I am doing - I hope you are too!

  • Yawn

Before writing this episode down, I had to yawn. This is an interesting phenomenon and, by the way, not fully explained medically. That is, why we yawn is not yet completely clear. Apparently it serves to cool the brain and of course it increases oxygen intake. But it doesn't necessarily have to do with tiredness. But it is contagious - because mirror neurons are activated in us. These trigger the behaviour that happens in our environment. In people who are less emphatic, these neurons react less. I hope that you have happy experiences with these neurons today: whether you laugh with others or mourn with others or: yawn with others. You now know why! I think these mirror neurons are a great gift - don't you? They make us getting closer together.
