Remember: we have these twenty-four hours, today. Yesterday has already passed and tomorrow may not come. We must enjoy and prepare. We must learn to be friends with ourselves and be happy with our current situation.
We must strive to do the best we can with the resources at our disposal.
One of the fragile points of the human is idolatry, whose elemental form is egotism.
It is the desire to be immortal, to find comfort in the material that gives us pleasure. An idol is a false idea that we believe resembles reality.
Idols receive your devotion and attention, but they are insufficient, vain, and limited because they have no value.
An idol will always leave you unsatisfied, insatiable, and wanting more.
Your idols don't define your identity. Your identity comes from your habits; the behavior you carry out day by day.
Humility is essential for you to be happier.
Humility is putting your feet on the ground, and it is one of the most powerful weapons you will have, to face this difficult life.
A very practical and simple way to put humility to work is to step out of your personal bubble and spend some of your time understanding the problems and needs of others.
Remember that there is no secret to being happy. Being happy is a very simple concept that is within the reach of the humblest child in the world.
It all starts with a thought that becomes your decision to be happy.
In summary, in these two chapters we saw the reasons why being happy has value.
The first: there is evil in this life. It is logical that people fall into the deception of their feelings or corrupt ideas of justice that can lead them to a life of resentment and pain for themselves and those around them.
The second: the world is full of problems. The vast majority are formed by conceptual errors that we have about the causes of these problems, or by obstacles that prevent us from addressing them properly, which can lead to a lot of pain and anxiety.
A third reason is the existence of our own idolatry. False ideas of reality that become wishes or mirages that have us catching the wind with our hands. False concepts that spread like burning powder, that have us working in vain.
Number four: there are irrational fears and worries that do not allow us to act. We could have all the knowledge of what it means to be happy, but not act according to our unfounded fears that many times have nested in our mind more as a vice or habit than because at this moment we want them to be there.
And finally, the most powerful reason to be happier is that it is good for your life. The accessible and available happiness that allows you to enjoy an abundant life is the best motivation not to deviate from our purpose.
Happiness would allow you to go through life's problems with much less tension, with a heart full of gratitude and joy.
It is a happiness that does not require fillers or false idols. It is free and accessible to anyone who wants to enjoy it.
