  • Hollywood Live: Shooting at Drake's Toronto Residence | Met Gala Highlights | Marlon Wayans Discusses Bachelorhood
Security Guard Shot at Drake's Toronto Residence Amid Feud with Kendrick Lamar

Police in Toronto say a security guard at Drake's Toronto home was severely injured in a shooting carried out by several individuals in a car. This all happened on Tuesday morning. The alleged victim has been identified as a security guard working at the residence. He has been taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Apparently this was all live streamed on CBS up in Toronto. The security guard was standing outside of the gate in front of the residence when the shooting occurred. I gotta tell you, this all begs the question, has this war of words between Drake and Kendrick Lamar gone too far? Stay tuned, there is more on this one.

Met Gala Highlights: Zendaya Dazzles in Dual Outfits as Cardi B Requires Team Assistance on the Red Carpet

Hats off to Cardi B, Bad Bunny, and Colman Domingo. They all slayed at the Met Ball. And, of course, there is Zendaya, who just brings it every time. She had two different outfits on. You know, there was a theme of the environment of land, sea, and sky. And everybody seemed to really, really nail it.

By the way, Cardi B had to be carried up the carpet by nine or ten people because her gown was so big. I don't know how these people sit down once they get up those stairs. Anyway, the gala raises money for the Fashion Institute and I hear the tickets run around $75,000 and up, so I'm sure they did pretty well in the fundraising department.

  • White House Declines to Comment on Marilyn Mosby Pardon Request, Cites Justice Department Jurisdiction

The White House refrained from expressing a stance on potential pardon requests, emphasizing a commitment to impartiality in matters of justice.

When questioned about calls for President Joe Biden to pardon Marilyn Mosby, the former Baltimore City State's attorney, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre adopted a noncommittal stance during Friday's White House press briefing. She explained that the pardon process for federal offenses falls under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Justice.

Mosby, convicted of falsely claiming financial hardship to withdraw funds from her retirement for a home purchase, faces a potential 40-year prison sentence upon her sentencing later this month.

  • Immediate Action Sought on Haiti Crisis

On Wednesday morning, congressional leaders will demand decisive federal action to address Haiti's severe humanitarian and political turmoil. Haiti Caucus co-chairs Yvette Clarke, Ayanna Pressley, and Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick are pushing to extend temporary protected status for Haitians and halt deportations amidst escalating violence in Haiti.

The group is calling for an immediate pause on deportations, an end to the detention of Haitians at sea, and a push for broader humanitarian aid. This comes as the current temporary protected status is set to expire this August, while Haiti continues to grapple with rampant gang violence and political chaos.

The additional $25 million in aid announced last March highlights the ongoing U.S. efforts to mitigate the crisis in Haiti, but congressional members want the federal government to go further. Lawmakers stress the urgency of protecting Haitians from being sent back to these dire conditions, underscoring the critical nature of international support and highlighting the need for continued support and safe asylum pathways.

  • Hollywood Live: Kim Godwin is out as president of ABC News | Star-Studded Style at Anna Wintour's Pre-Met Gala Dinner | R. Kelly Begins Long Prison Sentence

Kim Godwin is out as president of ABC News. She is the first African American woman to hold this position. But she's been under fire for a while now. Back in February, ABC ushered in a new era under Debra O'Connell. O'Connell is a singer, seasoned veteran of the Disney milieu, and she's now been installed as the overseer of the parent company's new syndicate.

In the meantime, the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is taking a stand about this. They are not happy. Kim Godwin has issued a statement saying she has decided to retire from broadcast journalism. By the way, Kim is the executive behind the firing of T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach over their affair. She's also the one who suspended Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks after she made claims that the Holocaust was not related to race.

Star-Studded Style: Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, and Sienna Miller Shine at Anna Wintour's Pre-Met Gala Dinner

Jennifer Lopez, Sienna Miller, and Zendaya brought their fashion A game as they arrived to Vogue editor Anna Wintour's pre-Met Gala dinner in New York over the weekend. Zendaya and Jennifer are co-chairs for this year's Institute Gala along with Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth, who by the way were both present. There is one person who has been axed from all of the Met Gala events this year. Guess who? Diddy.

    R. Kelly Begins Long Prison Sentence at North Carolina's Butner Medium Facility

Disgraced former singer R. Kelly is now serving his prison sentence in North Carolina. As of April, the 56 year old former R&B star took up residence at Butner Medium. It's in Granville County in North Carolina. We have no idea when his release date is but it is pointing toward the grim possibility of him being behind bars well into his late 80s. By the way, Butner Prison is a medium security federal correction institution, according to its website.

  • Breaking the Myth: Yes, Black People Get Skin Cancer

(AURN News) - As Skin Cancer Awareness Month begins, health organizations are sending an important reminder: Although less common, people of color are at risk and must stay vigilant about protection and early detection.

"Having darker skin lowers the risk of melanoma at the more common sites, like the legs, back and chest, but anyone can develop it on areas like the palms of the hands, soles of the feet and under the nails," the American Cancer Society (ACS) states. "In fact, melanomas found in these areas account for more than half of all melanomas in African American people but fewer than 1 in 10 melanomas in White people."

Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer nationwide, according to the ACS. However, Black people are about three times more likely than white people to die within five years of diagnosis, often due to later-stage detection. Part of the problem, experts say, is that dermatologists can have more difficulty identifying concerning lesions on darker skin tones. The Association of American Medical Colleges is pushing for more diverse training images and educational materials to help providers make accurate evaluations.

Physicians encourage people of color to perform regular self-exams, especially on areas like hands, feet soles, and nail beds where melanomas more frequently appear in this population. Annual check-ups with a dermatologist are also advised.

  • Biden's Stand: Addressing Antisemitism Today

At the Holocaust Memorial Museum today, President Joe Biden is set to deliver a speech condemning antisemitism and aligning the tragic events of the Holocaust with the recent Hamas attacks on Israel this past October 7, the deadliest since World War II.

As part of the museum's annual day to remember the Holocaust, Biden will spotlight these harrowing parallels and call on Americans to stand against antisemitism in all its forms.

The president's address comes amid rising protests nationwide on over 120 college campuses asking universities to divest their investments in Israel. Over 30,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces, aiming to avenge the lives of the 1,500 killed during the initial Hamas attack.

Biden is expected to urge unity in combating hate and outline his administration's steps, such as the National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism.

  • Arkansas to Honor Daisy Bates and Johnny Cash with Statues at U.S. Capitol

Five years ago, Arkansas lawmakers made the decision to replace the statues representing the state at the U.S. Capitol, facing little objection to removing the existing sculptures, which had been obscure figures in the state’s history for over a century. The state will soon be represented by civil rights leader Daisy Bates and musician Johnny Cash.

Bates, who led the state NAACP, famously mentored the Black students known as the Little Rock Nine, pivotal in the 1957 integration of Central High School, and is honored with a downtown street in Little Rock named after her.

Cash, who was born in Kingsland and passed away in 2003, boasts achievements including 90 million records sold worldwide across various genres, leading to his induction into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Plans are underway to install Bates' statue this week and Cash's later this year.

  • Power Moves in the Motor City: VP Harris Drives Economic Change

Vice President Kamala Harris continued her Economic Opportunity Tour on Monday at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit. At the event, she announced new government grants for auto supply companies.

"I am proud to announce we are investing $100 million in small and medium-sized auto supply companies, many of which are Black-owned and based right here in Michigan. These grants will allow businesses to upgrade production and production lines to produce parts for electric vehicles. I am also pleased to announce the launch of a new program that will match government-backed loans with private equity capital to help small and mid-sized auto suppliers access loans from a quarter million dollars to ten million dollars," the vice president said.

The nationwide tour aims to highlight the administration's efforts in enhancing community investment. President Biden will be addressing the NAACP in Detroit in just two weeks.

  • Trial Tension: Trump's Inner Circle Takes the Stand

Stepping into another intense week, the Manhattan courtroom could hit pivotal moments in Donald Trump's hush money trial. The trial, now entering week number three, has prosecutors digging deeper into Trump's inner circle and building a case with testimonials from top aides.

Last Friday, Hope Hicks, a key witness and former top aide, provided jurors with an inside look at the 2016 campaign's most turbulent days. Her testimony revolved around the fallout from the notorious 2005 Access Hollywood tape and Trump's moves to quash emerging scandalous stories via hush money payments.

Coming up, Michael Cohen, Trump's former attorney, is slated to testify, facing tough scrutiny from the defense aimed at questioning his reliability. Trump, denying all allegations, faces 24 felony charges over the alleged cover-up through falsified business records. As the legal drama unfolds, all eyes are on what could be a defining chapter in this high-stakes legal battle.

  • White House Responds to Police Presence at College Campus Protests

(AURN News) - The White House has responded to the widespread protests at U.S. college campuses that lasted nearly two weeks in response to the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas. Pro-Palestinian demonstrations inundated several universities, notably Columbia and the University of Texas. The White House addressed the campus unrest last Friday, with Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stating that decisions over police presence rest with the institutions themselves.

"We also believe and it is important that all Americans can peacefully protest within the law," Jean-Pierre said. "But Americans have the right to peacefully protest within the law. And we’re going to be very consistent here."

She also acknowledged the "incredibly painful" and "very charged moment" stemming from the intense Mideast conflict.

The protests reflect a continued divide among Americans in their stance toward the Israeli-Palestinian crisis. A new ABC News/Ipsos poll found 38% believe the U.S. is doing too much to support Israel, indicating a majority still backs Israel.

When it comes to trust in political leaders for handling the conflict, 37% have more confidence in former President Trump compared to 29% for President Biden. One-third said they trusted neither.
