  • Haley Drops Out of Presidential Bid, Stops Short of Supporting Trump

Nikki Haley is ending her bid for the GOP presidential nomination. The former South Carolina governor told her supporters in South Carolina she wishes Donald Trump well, but she did not officially endorse him.

"I am filled with the gratitude for the outpouring of support we've received from all across our great country. But the time has now come to suspend my campaign," said Haley.

She also said she hopes Trump will bring the Republican Party together and added that he has a choice to make.

"I have no regrets. And although I will no longer be a candidate, I will not stop using my voice for the things I believe in. It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him. And I hope he does that."

She was soundly defeated by former President Trump in last night's Super Tuesday. While she was making the speech, former President Trump said on his platform, Truth Social, that he "trounced" her.

  • NYT Poll Reveals Trump Leads Biden, Majority Believe Country Headed in Wrong Direction

(AURN News) – A recent New York Times/Siena poll conducted at the end of February has unveiled challenges for the Biden administration. Former President Trump maintains a lead over President Biden, with 48% of registered voters favoring Trump compared to Biden's 43%.

Beyond the head-to-head comparison, the poll delved into public sentiment around the nation's trajectory. A staggering 65% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction, believing that the country is headed in the wrong direction. This sentiment was further dissected, revealing that 62% of men and 68% of women share the concern that the nation as a whole is on an undesirable path.

The hypothetical match-ups presented in the poll add to the Biden administration's woes. In a potential face-off with Republican hopeful Nikki Haley, Biden trails significantly, securing only 35% compared to Haley's 45%. In a matchup between Vice President Kamala Harris and Trump, Trump maintained a lead with 47% to Harris's 41%. Of the 980 registered voters polled, 12% of respondents identified as Black, and a majority, 73%, as white.

  • Sen. Kyrsten Sinema Announces She Won't Seek Reelection, Citing Political Climate

Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema will not seek reelection. An independent, Sinema cited the current political atmosphere when making her announcement on Tuesday in a video posted on social media.

"Because I choose civility, understanding, listening, working together to get stuff done, I will leave the Senate by the end of this year."

Sinema won her seat in 2018 as a Democrat but announced she was leaving the party in 2022. Arizona's seat could help change the landscape of the Senate, where Democrats hold a slim majority. Trump-backed Republican Kari Lake and Democrat Congressman Ruben Gallego are among the candidates vying for the seat.

Sinema says Americans are choosing to retreat further to their partisan corners.

"We've arrived at that crossroad and we chose anger and division. I believe in my approach, but it's not what America wants right now."

  • Down to the Wire: Congress Prevents Another Shutdown

Congress pulled through at the 11th hour, sending a lifeline to Americans nationwide. In a show of unity, both sides of the aisle came together to pass a short-term funding bill that is now on its way to President Biden's desk. The move dodges a government shutdown that was looming over the weekend, keeping the gears of government turning until mid-March.

The Senate gave the green light with a 73-13 vote, following the House's robust approval. This temporary fix extends funding for vital departments like Agriculture, Commerce, and Veterans Affairs until March 8, with the other sectors getting a grace period until March 22. It's a strategic step, buying time for a more detailed budget discussion aimed at keeping our nation running smoothly through September.

But not everyone is thrilled -- some are calling for deeper spending cuts. As President Biden signs the bill into law, he's calling on Congress not to rest on their laurels, but to push forward, ensuring long-term solutions that reflect America's needs.

  • Defining Success in Black America

(AURN News) – A comprehensive study by Pew Research has illuminated the nuanced perspective of Black Americans on success, revealing that 66% identify themselves as somewhat successful. But what lies beneath this statistic is a narrative intricately tied to family, financial stability, and the burden of debt.

According to Pew's findings from a survey of 4,736 Black adults in September 2023, a staggering 82% define success as the ability to provide for their families. This perspective offers a profound insight into the values and aspirations that shape the Black community's perception of achievement.

According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Black Americans experience the lowest median income in the country at $52,860, compared to $81,060 for whites and $108,700 for Asians. In the pursuit of financial success, two-thirds of those African Americans surveyed also emphasized the crucial importance of being debt-free.

  • Stress is a Significant Catalyst in Cancer Spread

(AURN News) – Scientists at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Cancer Center (CSHL) have identified stress as a major contributor not only to heart disease and stroke but also to the metastasis of cancer.

Former postdoc for CSHL, Xue-Yan He, emphasized the inevitability of stress in cancer patients. “Stress is something we cannot really avoid in cancer patients. You can imagine if you are diagnosed, you cannot stop thinking about the disease or insurance or family. So it is very important to understand how stress works on us,” He said.

The research conducted by the scientists sheds light on the profound impact of stress on specific white blood cells, rendering them more susceptible to metastasis. By replicating chronic stress conditions in mice with cancer, the researchers observed a notable increase in the spread of cancer cells.

The groundbreaking study not only underscores the psychological toll that a cancer diagnosis takes on individuals, but also highlights the tangible physiological consequences as well.

  • Wealth Gap Widens and the Middle-Class Shifts

(AURN News) – In at least 25 cities nationwide, the landscape of the middle class is undergoing a significant transformation. What was once deemed a comfortable income bracket is now being redefined due to the relentless rise in living costs.

According to research by GoBankingRates, between $150,000 and $87,000, a range traditionally associated with middle-class stability, is now considered lower middle class in several urban centers. The growing disparity in wealth has ushered in a new era where making ends meet is becoming an increasingly challenging feat for many American families.

As housing and rent prices soar, coupled with mounting consumer debt and escalating expenses for basic necessities, the once sturdy middle class is finding itself squeezed out of its conventional standing. The escalating prices at the pump and the grocery store further compound the financial strain on households across the nation.

The analysis by GoBankingRates exposes the stark reality of this economic shift. The minimum income required to be considered middle class has seen a drastic adjustment in various cities. In Chesapeake, Virginia, a relatively modest income of $61,802 is now deemed lower middle class. Plano, Texas has a threshold of $70,453, while in Arlington, Virginia, the benchmark has climbed to $91,591.

As the cost of living continues its upward trajectory, the nation is left to grapple with the unsettling disappearance of the traditional middle class, redefining what it means to achieve financial comfort here in the United States.

  • Opposing Agendas: Biden, Trump Visit Southern Border

Both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will visit the U.S.-Mexico border today, as controversy over the handling of the migrant crisis continues.

The White House press secretary told reporters the president will meet with border patrol agents and local leaders in Brownsville, Texas. He will also call on Republicans to vote to pass a bipartisan border security deal negotiated in the Senate.

Trump, meanwhile, will deliver remarks about 300 miles away in Eagle Pass, Texas.

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg says with so many people displaced around the world, migrant surges are nothing new.

"We are seeing certainly a surge of migrants at the southern border. We have for years under multiple administrations, we've had 600,000 migrants through our community since January of 2023. We've seen these things under Trump, we've seen them under Biden, we've seen them in administrations far beyond that. What is different here is a level of demagoguery that's being played out by extreme MAGA Republicans at the behest of Trump," Nirenberg said.

  • Mitch McConnell, 82, To Step Down As GOP Senate Leader

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell will step down as GOP leader in November. He made the announcement on the Senate floor, saying it's time for the next generation of leadership.

"Now it's 2024. I'm now 82. As Ecclesiastes tells us to everything there is a season and a time to every purpose," McConnell said.

He will serve out the remainder of his term, which ends in January 2027. He is the longest-serving Senate party leader in American history, as he's been elected to lead the Republican conference nine times since 2006.

"I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. However, I'll complete my job. My colleagues are giving me until we select a new leader in November and they take the helm next January. Father time remains undefeated. I'm no longer the young man sitting in the back hoping colleagues would remember my name. It's time for the next generation of leadership."
