A group of 14 Democratic senators, including Senators Edward Markey, Mark Warner and Chris Murphy, are urging a short-term stop of hostilities in Gaza. They expressed concerns over the failure to protect noncombatant civilians and the potential escalation of the conflict.
These senators aligned with President Biden's call for a pause in the fighting, emphasizing the need to prevent harm to civilians and Palestinian aid workers and get humanitarian aid delivered. The group also includes Senator Dick Durbin, Jeff Merkley, Tammy Duckworth and others.
President Biden has been actively involved, advocating for a ceasefire and engaging with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
While the White House considers a humanitarian pause for aid, it pushed back against a full ceasefire. Durbin also highlighted the importance of the immediate release of hostages and calls for dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians.

(AURN News) - As the holiday season approaches, the National Retail Federation (NRF) is optimistic that the 2023 holiday shopping season, spanning this month and the next, could play a pivotal role in bolstering the U.S. economy. The NRF's projections indicate an anticipated overall shopping growth of 3% to 4% when compared to the previous year, potentially reaching a staggering $966 billion. The trade association also anticipates robust growth in online shopping, with estimates ranging from 7% to 9%.
NRF President and CEO Matthew Shayla expressed his confidence in the positive outlook for this year's holiday sales. In a press release, he stated, “It is not surprising to see holiday sales growth returning to pre-pandemic levels. Overall household finances remain in good shape and will continue to support the consumer’s ability to spend.”
This optimistic outlook for the 2023 holiday shopping season comes on the heels of data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics last month, which indicated that the unemployment rate held steady at 3.8 percent in September. Despite this stability in the labor market, various industries, such as hospitality and healthcare, have witnessed growth, while the retail sector has experienced little change.
As the holiday shopping season kicks into high gear, retailers are expected to meet the surge in consumer demand by hiring additional seasonal workers. The NRF estimates that between 345,000 and 450,000 seasonal employees will be brought on board to meet the demands of this bustling shopping season.

In the 'you just can't make this stuff up' category, Suge Knight has a new podcast. Yep, he is still in jail serving a 28 year sentence, but apparently that doesn't matter. He made a deal with David Mays from Source Magazine. The podcast is called Collect Call With Suge Knight.
After one episode, as you might guess, there is some drama, because it's Suge Knight. Suge is making audacious claims about Akon, accusing him of raping underage girls in the studio. Akon has refuted the claims in a statement to TMZ Hip Hop, saying the claims are false and he is not standing for the slander.
"I need to make it very clear that I absolutely deny these outrageous false and disgusting claims Suge Knight made on his podcast about me," he said.
Akon goes on to say that he has never had any contact with Suge since he's been incarcerated, and the voice that you heard on his podcast was a soundbite previously recorded from an interview that Akon did with DJ Vlad three years ago regarding Suge Knight and this incident that happened back in 2009.
As you might guess, Akon has gotten his legal team involved. They are filing a defamation lawsuit against Knight. I don't know what that's going to mean because he's already in jail, but anyway, he says that he is still praying for Suge and he will continue to do that.
As for the backstory to all of this, in 2009, Suge was left KO'd on the pavement and a man in Akon's camp, Robert Carnes Jr., was arrested for a felony assault that happened in Scottsdale, Arizona. And as they say, the beat goes on.

He said, "This is the Rose Bowl. They say the Granddaddy of them all, right? I’m sure Granddaddy has some money. Grandpa should have some money to give his kids... They may not be able to get the items back. But we should be able to reimburse them. That was unbelievable."
Most of the players didn't have insurance for the stolen items. A report was filed with the Pasadena Police Department regarding the robbery. ESPN is reporting on all of this.

Britney Spears' Memoir Hits 1.1 Million Sales in First WeekBritney Spears' memoir, "The Woman in Me," has sold 1.1 million copies in the U.S. alone, and that was just the first week. She, of course, is grateful to her fans and readers around the world for their unwavering support. I guess you could call it that.
The sales figures include pre-orders, print sales, ebooks, and audiobooks. "The Woman in Me," released October 24, has been praised by critics as a compelling account of Britney's rise to global fame and her ongoing struggles, including the conservatorship that lasted for years as her father was in control of much of her life.
And she, of course, told about that abortion while dating Justin Timberlake more than 20 years ago. I think that's what sold the book.

On this November 2, 1983, a federal holiday was declared in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In the bill signed by President Ronald Reagan, every third Monday in January would from then on be observed as Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Dr. King was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 1968. Four days after his death, the first legislation seeking a Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday was made by Congressman John Conyers and 15 years later the holiday was solidified by President Reagan.
As the years passed, Martin Luther King Jr. Day became more than just a day off from work or school. It evolved into a day of service, a day when Americans of all backgrounds came together to volunteer, to give back to their communities, and to uphold the values of equality and social justice that Dr. King had championed.

Gaza's hospitals are still finding themselves in a dire predicament as they grapple with a critical shortage of medical supplies. A key medical facility in northern Gaza faces an additional challenge as its main generator has gone offline.
Meanwhile, Israeli strikes continue to target the vicinity of Gaza City's al-Quds Hospital, forcing the Israeli military to urge civilians to relocate to safer areas.
The escalating crisis in Gaza raises serious questions about the well-being of the population and the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing conflict. The strikes carried out by Israel were on the densely populated Jabalia refugee camp. The Civil Defense in the Hamas-run enclave called it a "second massacre.
The United Nations is sounding the alarm, raising serious concerns that these strikes could constitute disproportionate attacks that could amount to war crimes.
Meanwhile in Washington, President Joe Biden expressed support for a humanitarian pause to facilitate the release of more hostages.

WASHINGTON (AURN News) — The Federal Reserve has announced that there will be no change in interest rates following the conclusion of its Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) two-day meeting. This decision came as a pivotal moment for the nation's economic watchers amid high inflation.
The Fed cited robust economic activity during the third quarter and praised the overall health of the U.S. banking system. Nevertheless, in a statement, it acknowledged that inflation remained "elevated" and expressed a continued commitment to reducing it to the target rate of 2 percent.
Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, in a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, spoke to a strong labor market. "In the labor market. What we've seen is a very positive rebalancing of supply and demand, partly through just much more supply coming online. And with labor demand still clearly remaining very strong when you're when we have the kind of job growth we've had over the last quarter. It's still very strong demand," Powell stated.
The decision not to change interest rates comes amidst persistent concerns about high inflation, which has been a pressing economic issue since last year. Inflation currently stands at 3.7 percent, down from last year's high of 6.5 percent. Investors and financial markets had been eagerly awaiting the FOMC decision, as it carries significant implications for borrowing costs, investment decisions, and broader economic trends.
The decision not to raise interest rates was welcomed by many investors and markets as stocks rose after the announcement. The next FOMC meeting is scheduled to take place on December 12 and 13 when the Federal Reserve will once again evaluate economic conditions, make any necessary adjustments to its monetary policy, and determine if interest rates will increase.

Today on Capitol Hill, a historic clash unfolded as Republicans turned on House Speaker Mike Johnson over a game-changing Israel aid package. Johnson aims to provide a staggering $14.3 billion in aid to Israel, seeking to decouple it from Ukraine's military assistance amid the ongoing battles with Hamas and Russia respectively.
President Biden initially proposed a $10 billion package, including aid for both Israel and Ukraine, as well as border security. Johnson, who previously voted against the aid to Ukraine, now wants to handle Israel and Ukraine aid separately, emphasizing greater accountability for funds sent to both countries.
The bill requires bipartisan support to become law, necessitating approval in the House and also Senate with at least 60 votes. But the Senate is divided, with some Republicans openly opposing the plan, while others stress the importance of addressing the two conflicts together.
President Biden threatened to veto the bill, asserting that it lacks aid for Ukraine, which he deems an urgent necessity.
