I had the time of my life at Paris Fashion Week. I was a guest of Flying Solo, who has been doing runway shows for up and coming designers for the past 26 years in Paris. This year, they chose Pamela Maugile and her clothing brand Tunika as a designer to watch.
Pamela is being called the 'Queen of Cotton,' as her sustainable cotton goods come from her family-owned cotton farm in Tunica, Mississippi. The farm has been in the family for more than 150 years. I am pleased to say that the Tunika brand and Pamela got the biggest applause during her show, probably because you can actually wear the clothes.
You can go to @aurnonline to see some of my coverage from Paris Fashion Week, and we have a special YouTube interview coming up with Pamela later this week. You don't want to miss any of that story.
Bruno Mars concert called off amidst Israel-Hamas conflictThis was truly the summer of live concerts coming back. Unfortunately, Bruno Mars' sold-out concert planned in Tel Aviv for the weekend was canceled amid the deadly conflict between Israeli forces and Hamas militants. Concert promoters at Live Nation Israel announced that they had called off the event, which was set to take place at the celebrated Park HaYarkon near Tel Aviv.
All ticket buyers for the show have received an automatic refund to their credit cards with which they purchase the tickets. According to the translation of the Live Nation Israeli post in Hebrew, it said, "We stand with the residents of Israel, the IDF fighters, and the security forces in these difficult moments." Boy, we did not see this one coming.
Beyoncé's Renaissance Tour surpasses previous record for highest grossing by a solo female artistAnd speaking of tours, the New York Times is reporting that Beyoncé's Renaissance Tour has surpassed the previous record for highest grossing by a solo female artist, which was previously held by Madonna back in 2009. By the tour's close, Beyoncé will have generated, are you ready for this, an estimated $4.5 billion for the American economy. About as much as the 2008 Olympics did for Beijing.
Well, I guess that makes Beyonce a true American treasure. Ha! No pun intended.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the nation's response to the recent Hamas attacks will be a game changer. As the conflict intensifies, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has enforced a stringent siege on the Gaza Strip, cutting off all essentials from electricity and water to food and fuel.
The death toll has surged past 1,400, with over 900 fatalities in Israel and more than 500 in Gaza since the weekend attack. Amidst the chaos, heartbreaking stories emerge.
Among the victims are 260 youths, mercilessly gunned down during a music festival near the Gaza border. As the dust settles, fear grows for the nearly 170 Israelis, including the young and elderly, now held captive in Gaza.
Hamas recently issued a chilling warning: halt the airstrikes or face executions. With the Middle East on the brink of transformation, one pressing question remains: how will global powers react to this historic confrontation?

On October 9, 2009, former President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The Norwegian Nobel Committee's decision to honor Obama was based on his early efforts in American foreign policy toward diplomacy and dialog. They lauded his commitment to bridging the divides among nations, fostering cooperation, and promoting nuclear disarmament.
One of the key reasons for his recognition was his emphasis on engagement with countries like Iran and Russia, aiming to reduce tensions and encourage peaceful resolutions to global conflicts.
However, critics argued that it was more of a gesture of hope and encouragement for his potential rather than a reflection of tangible accomplishments.
Regardless of the controversy, the award highlighted the global anticipation for a renewed U.S. commitment to diplomacy and multilateral cooperation under Obama's presidency.

In a turn of events that's gripped the world, today saw the Israel-Hamas conflict intensify. Over 1,200 lives have been claimed, with Tel Aviv under fire and Israel's Iron Dome actively intercepting Hamas rockets.
Amidst the turmoil, the Israeli Defense Forces reported taking down over 500 Hamas and Islamic Jihad targets in the Gaza Strip. This robust response follows this weekend's shocking events, when hundreds of Hamas militants infiltrated Israel in an unparalleled assault, causing panic and prompting calls for a massive military retaliation.
Gaza, already under a tight blockade, faces even stricter sanctions. Israel's defense minister declared nothing is allowed in or out. This move, expected to drastically affect the two million residents, has sparked international concern.
President Joe Biden has firmly backed Israel's right to defend itself, even as concerns arise about the broader implications for the Middle East.

President Joe Biden is celebrating a significant victory as the latest jobs report reveals an outstanding surge in employment during September. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a remarkable 336,000 jobs were added, surpassing expectations and exceeding the average for the past year.
Holding steady at 3.8%, the unemployment rate remained unchanged in September, signaling a positive trend in the market. The president expressed his enthusiasm about the remarkable job gains during a speech at the White House.
Speaking with conviction, he credited the success to his administration's economic policies -- "Bidenomics" -- and emphasized their commitment to fostering economic growth from the middle out and the bottom up rather than catering solely to the affluent.
Diverse industries, including leisure and hospitality, government, and healthcare, experienced notable growth. The report also highlights a steady labor force participation rate, which remained at 62.8% in September.

(AURN News) — In response to what it calls a gun violence epidemic sweeping the nation, the White House has unveiled a comprehensive plan to tackle the growing crisis. The initiative, announced by the Department of Justice at the end of September, involves allocating over $4.4 billion in grants from the Office of Justice Programs to address the surge in violence across the country. The objective is to engage state and local community-based efforts not only in mitigating violence but also in providing essential treatment and services for those who are deemed “at risk.”
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre expressed concern over the recent spike in violent incidents across the nation during a press briefing this week.
“At Morgan State University in Baltimore, where a joyful Homecoming Week was interrupted by violence. In Holyoke, there were several people were shot at, including a pregnant woman who tragically lost the child she was carrying hours later in the hospital,” she said.
“And in Philadelphia, where three police officers were shot while doing their jobs last night. Americans should be able to go to their schools, places of worship, jobs, and out in their community without the fear of gun violence,” Jean-Pierre added.
The Department of Justice outlined the allocation of funds to target various aspects of the nationwide violence crisis. Here’s a partial breakdown: a significant portion, amounting to $1 billion, will be directed towards addressing gun violence and fostering trust within the criminal justice system. Additionally, justice system reform will see an allocation of $437 million in grants. For the juvenile justice system, the focus will be on enhancing fairness through "culturally responsive interventions," with $192 million set to focus on this area.
The White House says the overall goal is to work collaboratively with state and local entities to create safer communities, reduce gun violence, and provide support for those in need.

Mae C. Jemison is best known for becoming the first Black woman to be admitted to NASA's astronaut training program and to fly in space. In recognition of these and other achievements, she was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame exactly 30 years ago today, October 6, 1993.
Jemison applied for the astronaut program in 1985 after serving as a general medicine practitioner and as a medical officer in the Peace Corps.
As a result of the Challenger Shuttle Disaster, she had to reapply for the program and, in 1987, was one of 15 successful candidates in a field of 2,000.
She made her historic flight on Sept. 12, 1992, returning to Earth on Sept. 20, after more than 190 hours in space.

President Biden confirmed his administration's decision to proceed with about 20 miles of new U.S.-Mexico border wall construction. The president clarified that the funds for the project were already earmarked during the Trump era, and Congress had mandated their use for this purpose.
While acknowledging the decision, Biden admitted he doesn't believe the walls are an effective solution for curbing illegal immigration. However, the news comes amid rising pressure on Biden to manage the escalating migrant influx and requests from various U.S. cities for federal aid in handling growing migrant populations.
The decision has been met with swift criticism from immigrant advocates, including Mexican President López Obrador, who viewed it as a setback and an inconsistent stance from a president who once halted the use of emergency funds for the wall.
The Department of Homeland Security, however, reaffirmed that its core position remains unchanged: a border wall isn't the definitive solution.

Big news out of Alabama: A panel of judges has selected the final map for the 2024 congressional races.
Why is this significant? The chosen map consolidates cities like Birmingham and Mobile into a single district. Notably, under this configuration, District 2 will have a demographic where almost half the voters are Black. Meanwhile, in District 7, Black voters will constitute just over half the electorate.
This change can be traced back to a directive from the Supreme Court last year. The court mandated that Alabama needed to ensure Black voters had a fair representation opportunity. As a result, the state was instructed to craft at least two districts where Black voters held substantial influence.
The decision has garnered mixed reactions. Many have celebrated it as a long-awaited move toward fairness, while others expressed their reservations, with some hoping for an appeal.
With these changes in place, one overarching question remains: Will this new map significantly influence Alabama's political landscape come 2024?
