On the one hand teaching our kids right from wrong is a key element of parenting.
But if you accept there is another tier of behavioural decision-making that can be classified as Good and Bad, making that distinction for our kids is potentially harmful. In many cases what is good and what is bad is subjective.
Is a quiet baby a “Good baby” with a “Good Parent”?
Is speaking up in a socially awkward way “bad?”
Defining Good and Bad for our kids can set parameters for what is or isn’t acceptable at that level – at a time when our kids are seeking validation from us. The concept of validation is profound, ultimately signaling to our brains whether we are socially acceptable or not.
And we are, subconsciously, attaching good and bad to everything these days. Maybe the world should have a little more grey.

Perfectionism is a personality trait characterized by setting extremely high standards for oneself. Sometimes there’s nothing wrong with that, it can encourage us to go further, work harder, do more. But it can also cause us to be critical of our own performance, trigger fear and anxiety, and be a hinderance to our true potential.
Overcoming your own damaging perfectionist mindset is one thing, helping your children overcome theirs is another.
In this episode, specific tips to help us reach for the top and still respect that we’re only human.

It was a great joy to chat with Adelaide Football Club legend Rod 'Jammo' Jameson recently on Sports Legends with Bevo.
We discussed how Jammo was very close to being a Kangaroos player, what it was like to be part of the Crows premiership side in 1997, some of the characters that he played with during his career and Jammo gave some very insightful thoughts about what we can do with the current concussion issues in the AFL.
Thanks so much to Jammo for his time, to Peter Oldfield from the Southern Slugs Football Club for sponsoring the episode and to the team at PodBooth for putting this great video together.

Recognizing introverted and extroverted tendencies in children is crucial for understanding their needs and adapting our parenting styles accordingly. Extroverted children derive their energy and relaxation from social interaction, finding solace in the company of others. Introverted children are more likely to cherish time alone… time away from people including parents.
As outgoing parents, it’s important to recognize that our plans and activities might overwhelm the introverted child. At the same time, our child may need more stimulation than us just because we’re more on the introverted side.

The boys from Marmalade Australia, Div 12 Ressies and Anything Is Content are killing it on social media at the moment and you couldn't meet two nicer blokes.
I was stoked to have DJ Checkers and Srey on Comedy Legends with Bevo recently for a chat.
We spoke about how the boys first met, how the idea to kick torps has led them to go viral, the success of Marmalade Australia and the Div 12 Ressies and tips for how to go viral on social media!
Thanks so much to my former team mate Zooks who got me in touch with the boys (they all now play together at Lockleys Football Club) and to Rackets and Strings and the Southern Slugs Football Club for sponsoring the episode.
Last but not least thanks to the team at PodBooth for putting this great video together and to Srey and Checkers for giving up their time to have a chat.

Personality types affect your family dynamics. The ISTJ is typically the dutiful parent offering their kids consistency, routine, and organization. But the ESTP parent is usually more adaptable and able to go with the flow.
Understanding not just your own personality type but your partner’s and those of your children is important to keeping the home harmonious.

Hey that mine.
I saw it first.
Too bad. Finders keepers. Losers weepers.
No need to even ask if this sounds familiar. It does. But there are ways to manage sibling rivalries. Actually understanding your children’s personality types and preferences can go a long way to keeping the peace.

When traveling do you prefer to be highly organized and structured? Loose and available for what catches your whim? Or somewhere in between.
It’s all good when it’s just you traveling. It gets complicated when you have traveling companions, particularly if they don’t share your preferences.

The most important tenet of Attachment theory is that young children need to develop a relationship with at least one primary caregiver for normal social and emotional development.
But in a world where parents, not just teenagers, are constantly distracted by mobile apps, social media, email and text messages, how do we ensure our kids are ok?
