Sam Troth shares his story of recovery and redemption with Chris Howe on The Authentic Adversity Podcast.

Sam was sexually abused by a work colleague of his father's at the age of nine, which continued until he was 13. This ended his normal upbringing and led to a troubled life, with 68 convictions in criminal courts and time spent in prison. ​

Sam's life story is a testament to the power of resilience and the importance of addressing the root causes of issues like childhood trauma and sexual abuse. By creating safe spaces and providing tailored support, we can help survivors like Sam heal and lead fulfilling lives. ​

Sam has now walked the length of New Zealand to raise awareness for male survivors of sexual abuse and to continue his own healing journey. During his walk, he received support from survivors and workers who provided him with accommodation, food, and other necessities. Through his journey, Sam has become a voice for survivors, creating a platform for people to share their stories and break the silence around sexual abuse.

Sam is a true example of change and a voice for many that can't speak up!!

In this episode, Chris chats with Sergio Morandin again but more in depth about mental health and addiction recovery.

Sergio was dealing with a lot of anger and frustration even in recovery. He had reached a breaking point and decided to talk to his sponsor, a firefighter, for advice. The firefighter suggested that Sergio see an anger management therapist. Despite his initial reluctance, Sergio decided to take his friend's advice and seek help. He was surprised by his friend's suggestion, as he viewed him as a "real man's man" who was unaffected by anything. This conversation was a turning point for Sergio, as he was able to recognize that anger management was something that could help him. He was encouraged by his friend's support and ultimately decided to take action and get the help he needed.

Sergio and his friend talked about a variety of topics, but Sergio kept a lot of his struggles hidden. He didn't talk about his difficult relationship with his mother, nor did he mention when he found his friend had committed suicide at 19. He did mention that he had found some ways to cope with his anger for a few years, but eventually depression crept in and he felt like he was in a fog. Sergio was worried about taking medication to deal with his depression, but did try it for a period of time. Ultimately, he found himself feeling flatlined emotionally, with nothing exciting him or fazing him.

Through our conversation with Sergio, we dive deep into his personal journey with mental health, discussing the challenges he faced and the lessons he learned along the way. Sergio speakes openly and honestly about his inner most struggles and adversities and how he continues to overcome them!! It was during this time that Sergio was introduced to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), a decision that would change his life forever. After being forced into the rooms of AA, Sergio found the support and guidance he needed to get sober and stay clean. Since July 11th, 1992, he has remained sober and is now the proud owner of 50% of a treatment center, where he is committed to helping others overcome addiction and reclaim their lives.

Through our conversation with Sergio, we dive deep into his personal journey, discussing the challenges he faced and the lessons he learned along the way. But Kevin's journey to success wasn't always an easy one. Growing up in the typical American middle-class lifestyle, he thought life was normal until his parents split up. Kevin was then uprooted and moved into several unsatisfactory living situations, which led him to cope with the stresses of life through alcohol and self-harm.

However, Kevin had always dreamed of being a fighter, and when he discovered Muay Thai, he was immediately enamoured by the sport. Despite fearing failure, he eventually picked up the sport, which led to a significant change in his life and lifestyle. Through Muay Thai, Kevin found the strength and discipline to get sober and became wildly successful in the sport.

Today, Kevin is retired from Muay Thai and is a respected trainer who shares his passion for the sport with others. He's also an accomplished artist, author, and motivational speaker who inspires and motivates others to overcome their struggles and pursue their dreams.
