Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22: 37-40
These commandments are the foundation to being a true and devout Christian. Loving God with all of our heart, soul and mind, and then loving your neighbor as yourself. Without these two in place, everything else that is practiced as a Christian is negated. We can give to charity, we can pray for others, we can talk about how much we love God, but if we are not fulfilling these commandments, we do not have a solid foundation to our faith.
I labeled this episode as "Let's Get Back to the Basics." because God created for us a perfect design on how to live and we will only flourish if we follow alongside those guidelines.
They're put in place because He has given us the ability to live here on Earth with purity and joy when accomplishing these; with His help of course.
I build off of the basics in this episode because that is the way to learn. You first want to understand the concept, and can add everything else in after. It is like we're making a sweet baked good for our family and friends. The recipe calls for flour to be the most abundant ingredient. If we don't build off the top needed ingredient, we will not be able to make the best offering to others that we can.
Jesus' teaching is this. He provides us the groundwork, and from there we can build. If we need his help, he's right alongside us, offering assistance at any time we need. (Which is quite often, as we're the imperfect ones, and He's God.) I hope this message encourages you to follow God's perfect design, and faithfully give your all to Him to abide in what He has taught us. I love you!
