In this episode I provide a perspective that is not often heard: questioning the way society is. From self-help to His help is a term I've coined for this podcast specifically. I delve into what this means for me. I was fully saturated in the "need to know everything": what was wrong with me, how to fix all of the things society was putting pressure on me about. I gripped onto the self-help books for my life. I was stuck in a perpetual state of believing something was inherently wrong with me. I had gone to therapy for years and was on a pursuit searching for an answer.
I didn't find the answer until years later. It wasn't until God was spoken back into my life that I had FREEDOM. Where did this freedom come from? It came from learning that I was beautifully and wonderfully made in God's image. And yes, life happened to me, but there was nothing wrong with me. I didn't need to continue self-soothing, self-sabotaging, self-medicating. Nor did I need to continue to dive deep into the self-help books wondering what can be uncovered to feel better about myself.
God is the answer. He is so patient, gracious, kind, caring and knows our hearts, our brokenness, our desires, and what brings us joy, and He gives us a place to rest when the world becomes too heavy. When you recognize that we serve a living God that knows our ins and outs, we no longer feel the power of the self but rather give up the control to Him.
In a world full of therapy, botox, injections, Ozempic, weight loss programs, self-help books, medication, and an influx of information at all times, how do we find the real answers to our problems, as none of these are offering any reconciliation.
Perfectionism breeds fear. It makes you feel frozen in time. It causes you to feel shame. There is freedom in being imperfect and freedom in authenticity. I pray this episode blesses you!
