  • Episode 209: Abp. Alfred Hughes and Dcn. Larry Oney on A Gospel Path to Racial Healing (November 8, 2022)
    In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Archbishop Emeritus Alfred Hughes and Deacon Larry Oney on their book A Gospel Path to Racial Healing (November 8, 2022)

    Racial eruptions continue to highlight our need for deeper racial healing. This book begins with two contrasting stories of a black deacon and a white bishop. They recapitulate the sad history of racial servitude and discrimination, while acknowledging the uneven history of the Church’s response. Drawing on the Church’s social teaching, they then propose a Gospel path to racial healing. This brief book can serve as a manual for teaching or discussion in parishes and schools.

  • Episode 208: Benjamin Bongers & Courtney Boatright on The Farmer, the Miner, & the Artisan (Nov. 5, 2022)
    In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Benjamin Bongers & Courtney Boatright on The Farmer, the Miner, & the Artisan (Nov. 5, 2022)

    We are all puzzle pieces—some too short, some too tall, some missing pieces of ourselves. Yet we all bring special gifts to others in our lives. In this Nativity story, you will meet 3 people, a Farmer, a Miner, and an Artisan, whose common works produce uncommon results, showing that some of our gifts to others aren’t the ones we think they are. Travel back in time with us to the days of caravans and wisemen, to trading trinkets in the Great Market of Petra, and to what gifts really matter when we follow a new star in the sky.

  • Episode 206: Tom Michaud on After Justice (October 22, 2022)
    In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Dr. Tom Michaud on his book After Justice (October 22, 2022)

    After Justice: Catholic Challenges to Progressive Culture, Politics, Economics and Education

    In recent decades in the United States, various derivative forms of Progressivism have emerged that manifest its lack of philosophical cohesion and authoritarian proclivity, such as:

    1) Postmodernism, which was actually anti-Modernism with its rejections of Rationalism, Scientific Positivism and any traditional-based metaphysics and ethics;

    2) Authoritarian Politically Correct and Cancel Culture standards of moral righteousness; and,

    3) Woke mentality that employs social and mainstream media to transform the “people” into a conformist, hive-minded ruling mob.

    This book demonstrates in an Augustinian manner how contemporary Progressivism, to its own detriment, has become a political ideology and can no longer be considered a political philosophy.

    In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Bob Kurland on his book A Science Primer for the Faithful (September 27, 2022)

    A Science Primer for the Faithful is a book that explains how science developed, demonstrating how the “truths” of science change as new data appears and new theories arise to explain that data. Unlike the truths of Catholic teaching, there is no eternal dogma for scientific theories, only a consistent methodology for the practice of science.

  • Episode 201: Ben Bongers on True Love (September 20, 2022)
    In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Ben Bongers on his Christmas book True Love (September 20, 2022)

    Let’s face it, life is messy and so are emotions. But, as Hellen Keller said, “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.” This book was written with love, for someone the author loves, and who loves him in return. The twelve stories contain every emotion that we feel daily, but we’re too afraid to let out. They are offered in the hope that readers will give themselves permission to really feel. To laugh, to hope, and yes… to cry. What better time of life than the Holidays to open that little door to our hearts that we slam shut and lock most of the time.
