  • World famous author JOE CLIFFORD returns to Authors on the Air
Authors on the Air host Pam Stack welcomes world famous author Joe Clifford, who has recently returned from his extended book tour in Europe (ok, Italy, but it's in Europe). In case you didn't know Joe Clifford is the author of several books, including The One That Got Away, Junkie Love, and the Jay Porter Thriller Series, as well as editor of the anthologies Trouble in the Heartland: Crime Fiction Inspired by the Songs of Bruce Springsteen; Just to Watch Them Die: Crime Fiction Inspired by the Songs of Johnny Cash, and Hard Sentences, which he co-edited. Joe's writing can be found at www.joeclifford.com. Joe is also a musician and he cusses worse than any sailor you'll ever meet. He's got a beautiful wife and 2 terrific sons.
About THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY: It’s been seven years since Kira Shanks was reported missing and presumed dead. Alex Salerno has been living in New York City, piecemealing paychecks to earn a livable wage, trying to forget those three days locked underground and her affair with Sean Riley, the married detective who rescued her. When Noah Lee, hometown reporter with a journalistic pedigree, requests an interview, Alex returns to Reine and Riley, reopening old wounds. What begins as a Q&A for a newspaper article soon turns into an opportunity for money, closure and—justice. The disappearance of Kira Shanks has long been hung on Benny Brudzienski, a hulking man-child who is currently a brain-addled guest at the Galloway State Mental Hospital. But after Alex reconnects with ex-classmates and frenemies, doubts are cast on that guilt. Alex is drawn into a dangerous game of show and tell in an insular town where everyone has a secret to hide. And as more details emerge about the night Kira Shanks went missing, Alex discovers there are some willing to kill to protect the horrific truth.

  • Tess Makovesky Interview for Noir on the Radio
Tess Makovesky writes a distinctive brand of British comédie noir. Her short stories have darkened the pages of various anthologies and magazines, including Shotgun Honey, Pulp Metal Magazine, Out of the Gutter Online, Betty Fedora, 'Exiles: An Outsider Anthology' (Blackwitch Press), 'Drag Noir' (Fox Spirit), 'Rogue' (Near to the Knuckle), and 'Locked and Loaded' (One Eye Press).
Her latest book, "Gravy Train" (from All Due Respect, a Down & Out Books imprint) starts off with a barmaid named Sandra overhearing details of a betting scam. Using that information, she wins herself and husband Mike eighty thousand pounds. But they’ve reckoned without mugger Lenny, lying in wait outside the betting shop door. And he’s reckoned without a top-notch car thief, his own devious boss, a fellow gang-member with a grudge, and Sandra’s unpleasant almost-Uncle George. Chaos ensues as a whole bunch of disparate—and desperate—characters chase the bag of money around Birmingham’s back streets.
We chat with Tess about everything "Gravy Train," noir, writing techniques, and some unusual sources of inspiration!

  • Best-selling author Brad Taylor discusses DAUGHTER OF WAR on Authors on the Air
Authors on the Air host Pam Stack welcomes best-selling author BRAD TAYLOR to the studio.   Brad was born on Okinawa, Japan, but grew up on 40-acres in rural Texas.  Graduating from the University of Texas, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry.  Brad served for more than 21 years, retiring as a Special Forces Lieutenant Colonel.  During that time he held numerous Infantry and Special Forces positions, including eight years in 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment – Delta where he commanded multiple troops and a squadron.  He holds a Master’s of Science in Defense Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School, with a concentration in Irregular Warfare.
About the Book:  Hot on the trail of a North Korean looking to sell sensitive US intelligence to the Syrian regime, Pike Logan and the Taskforce stumble upon something much graver: the sale of a lethal substance called Red Mercury.
Unbeknownst to the Taskforce, the Syrians plan to use the weapon of mass destruction against American and Kurdish forces, and blame the attack on terrorists, causing western nations to reassess their participation in the murky cauldron of the Syrian civil war.  Meanwhile, North Korea is planning a double-cross that will dwarf the attack in Syria even as it lays the blame on the Syrian government. Leveraging Switzerland's fame for secrecy and its vast network of military bunkers, now repurposed by private investors for the clandestine storage of wealth, North Korea will use Red Mercury to devastate the West's ability to deliver further sanctions against the rogue regime.   As the Taskforce begins to unravel the plot, a young refugee unwittingly holds the key to the conspiracy. Hunted across Europe for reasons she cannot fathom, she is the one person who can stop the attack--if she can live long enough for Pike and Jennifer to find her.
