  • Vanishing of the Bees: Maryam Henein on Our Lives with Shannon Fisher
Shannon Fisher's guest this week is Maryam Henein, director of the award-winning film Vanishing of the Bees and cofounder of HoneyColony. This documentary, filmed across four continents, examines the mysterious disappearance of honeybees across the planet. The two will discuss this disappearance and the crisis (Colony Collapse Disorder) it has created for beekeepers who rely on bees to pollinate the fruits and vegetables being grown around the world. Vanishing of the Bees, narrated by Ellen Page, details beekeepers David Hackenberg and Dave Mendes' struggle to keep their bees healthy and fulfill pollination contracts.
In addition to being a filmmaker, Henein is a longtime journalist and the founder of Honey Colony, an online magazine offering advice for healthy, organic living. Fisher and Henein will examine the role neonicotinoid pesticides and genetically engineered crops are playing in Colony Collapse Disorder, as well as the marked increase in auto-immune disorders around the world.
Our Lives with Shannon Fisher explores personal, political, and societal perspectives of the American experience.
