“Believe to see the Glory of God” ~ Dr Reg Morais

It can be very challenging for a parent to believe they will see God move over their child’s life when day in and day out they witness the debilitating effects of Autism. Sadly, this creates room for fear. So not only is the child fearful, but the parent is too, fretting for their child’s future. But Jesus reminds us “Do not fear; only believe, and she (they) will be well” (Luke 8:50). If we through faith can only believe and rest in the assurance of God’s word, you will see the impossible become possible. Listen in, to hear more!

When I was a young boy in kindergarten, my teacher told my mother I was not ready to start primary one. In the school system in Singapore back in my day, if you were retained more than three times, it would mean you would have to drop out of the schooling system altogether. Sadly, upon hearing these words from my teacher, and knowing the difficulties I faced with the Autism, Aspergers, and OCD, my parents reluctantly kept me back in kindergarten for a second time. “Imitate Christ & your child will imitate you” ~ Dr Reg Morais

I can recall the time when my parents accepted God into their hearts and lives. I was just a young boy, not yet been healed of the spectrum disorders that plagued me. Nevertheless, I was still able to see the transformation that was taking place in my parents’ lives. As their desire grew to know more about God, so did their faith. Although I struggled on many levels, I was still able to see the many miracles that were happening in their lives. So, what did I do? I began to imitate them. Listen in, to find out!

It is one thing to wait on God for our healing, but it is another thing for us to partner with God in the process. Of course, when you are a family experiencing Autism, Aspergers or obsessive-compulsive disorder, I know from experience, doing anything outside of your daily plan can be easier said than done. Aside from our struggles, we still carry many desires in our hearts that we would like to come to pass for our families, while God, in His infinite goodness also has some wonderful plans and purposes in mind for us. But often, we, in our human thinking will only speak about the things we would like to happen. So, what is Jesus meaning, when He says, “Rise and go, your way; your faith has made you well” (Luke 17:19). Listen in, to find out!

When you are on the spectrum, the words that people are speaking to you have the potential to either help you or hinder you. Throughout my life my mother has been my greatest ally, my greatest supporter, and my greatest encourager. Her words have always been faith filled and gracious toward me. I still remember her saying to me, “you will be healed one day Reg, because the God that I serve will heal you.” There is one thing for sure, my mother never gave up on me or the promises God had for my life. You see, your words should always be pleasant, like ‘drippings of the honeycomb,’ (which are) ‘sweet to taste’ (Prov 24:13) and are good for the soul. Are your words helping? Autism, Aspergers and OCD overtime will, cause the soul to become extremely exhausted and weary. A life on the spectrum, is packed with daily complexities, challenges, and difficulties. For this reason, the soul is drained and is left depleted. God knows the struggles that a child on the spectrum faces, and promises through His word, to ‘satisfy and replenish every languishing soul.’ He will give rest to the soul that is weary and replace sorrow for joy (Jeremiah 31:25). God has allotted to each of us a measure of faith. Owing to that fact, we will either put our faith in Jesus, or we will put our faith in our feelings. It goes without saying, that a child with Autism, Aspergers or obsessive-compulsive disorder, driven by fear, has their faith bound by feelings, rather than the promises of God. Due to this, that faith driven fear will dictate their lives. When we only focus on Jesus and exercise our faith on the facts of Jesus’ life, His Word and His promises, our faith will grow exponentially. Listen in, to find out more!
