Every one of us has an element of fear and anxiety we need to deal with at one time or another.  In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus experienced a level of anguish and fear, as the burden He carried weighed heavily upon Him.  So much so, the bible says in Luke 22:44, that ‘His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.’  As difficult as it was, Jesus put His trust in His Father, utilising His faith, rather than fear, to trust.

Psalm 56:3 says whenever I am afraid, I put my trust in You.

Genesis 32:24 says, Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day ...And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!”  You see, the Kingdom of God needs to be taken by violence and force, why do I say that? Jacob made the choice to wrestle to see a victory, as did I when I had Autism, Aspergers and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.  I came to realise that God is a God who is full of options and choices.  I decided to not accept the judgement passed on to me by my doctors, and I refused to accept the judgement passed on to me by the worldly systems, but rather I decided to seek out scriptures that increased my faith, and my hope. Scriptures that far outweighed the evidence in the world.

Romans 10:17 says, ‘So then faith comes from hearing, and hearing the word of God.’ It is that same word of God, that is the very medicine needed for a person’s life, particularly in the life of someone dealing with Autism, Aspergers and OCD.  The bible tells us in Proverbs 17:22 ‘A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.’ We must be mindful of our attitudes and not accept defeat in our circumstances.  God’s life-giving word tells us, to rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1Thess 5:16-18). 

God is faithful to keep His promises; we are to not quench the Spirit, or despise prophecies, but rather test all things; holding fast to what is good (1Thess 5:19-21).

It is an ungodly spirit that controls and dictates the lives of people that live with Autism, Aspergers or OCD.   I have learnt this firsthand, my experiences do not come from a textbook, but rather they come from the brokenness I had to go through, the rejection, the abandonment, and the alienation. It is one of the saddest things as an Autistic child to be alienated, because of certain things or certain behaviours that you do, that are completely out of your control.

Before Jesus casts the spirit out of a boy, in the book of Mark 9:14-29, He asked the boy’s father “how long has this been happening to him”? after answering, Jesus then encouraged him saying, “if you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

What will the future look like?  All other children are thinking about is what they want to be when they grow up.  People with Autism, Aspergers or OCD struggle for years and years and years, not knowing what will happen to them, and not knowing if they will be able to become someone significant when they grow up!  God reassures us in Isaiah 55:11 ‘So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

As we come to understand the things of God, we will learn that God has given us the authority to subdue the oppressor that is causing the symptoms associated with Autism, Aspergers and OCD.
