Steve Witt's message to Awake Church Sat evening 4-22-17

On this Resurrection Sunday, Matt shares the story of what led up to Jesus rising from the dead - from Genesis through Passover, to the Crucifixion and the Resurrection. God had planned for our redemption from before the foundation of the world and made a way for us to be forgiven, restored, freed and empowered to be a part of His ultimate plan in the earth.

On this special day, Matt shares about the beginnings and some of the history and story of Awake Church. God clearly intended for this fellowship to begin in Winston Salem and He has helped, healed and touched many people through Awake over the past 15 years.

In this message, Matt continues the Majesty of God series by sharing about the nature of God. God is unfathomably kind and patient and merciful. He is also severe and just as the scriptures declare - “Behold both the kindness and severity of God.” Without having an understanding and reverence for God, mankind can make the mistake of either seeing Him as only kind and gracious, or only severe and harsh. He is both and it’s important for us to see Him as He is, not as we would like Him to be.

In this message, David Olinger continues our “Majesty” series and shares about God’s infinite wisdom and power in governing a very complex universe. Most of our stress and anxiety comes from believing that we are the center of the universe. We try to take the place of God and control things that we have no power to control; finding fault with God and telling Him what He ‘ought’ to do. Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do innocent people suffer?

Perceiving God as magnificent, great, kind and holy will be reflected in how we treat others and how we live. King David stated that he blessed God daily, declared His greatness publicly, and meditated in wonder at the vastness of God. God then says that David was unique - a man after His own heart. As we set set aside the man-made entertainment to daily gaze upon God’s entertainment - the stars, and the nature that He has made, our hearts will be flooded with awe, wonder and the greatness of the God. We will then live in such a way that we know that nothing is too difficult for God, no problem is unsolvable, and He that lives inside of us is greater than anything in the world.

Visiting pastor Guy Kump shares some about the scriptural promises for the nation of Israel and how we can participate in prayer for them. Matt then share some on the Majesty of God, His omnipotent power and personal love for each one of us.

Jesus said that there are signs of the times that we live in that communicate. In this message, Matt shares about some of the signs he has witnessed from the sports and political world that point to significant spiritual victories by the unlikeliest of people. The Bible says that the Saints of the Highest One will receive and possess the Kingdom and that this is the moment for those who have eyes to see their opportunity, to rise up in faith and take action.
