This episode is a meditation by Stephen Levine. Levine wrote several meditations on bringing awareness to pain, showing ourselves mercy and letting our bodies find peace. I have used this meditation with clients dealing with chronic pain such as arthritis and fibromyalgia. My hope is the meditation will also bring relief and comfort to others dealing with pain.
The Soham (pronounced "So Hum") Mantra is found in the Isha Upanishad. It literally translates to “I am that.” It is the natural vibration of the SELF. It helps you connect your SELF with the universe/ultimate reality. Thus, repeating the phrase helps to center you into a feeling of interconnectedness. According Swami Sivananda, "Meditation on Soham is same as meditation on OM. Soham is only OM. Delete the consonants S and H. You get OM."
This meditation was adapted and shortened from Yoga International's version.
Today's meditation comes from Mudras For Healing and Transformation by Joseph and Lilian Le Page. The Pala Mudra can be used to ease anxiety and stress. It instills a sense of trust and non-attachment. It is helpful for muscle tension, reducing blood pressure and aids a healthy digestive system. The Pala Mudra creates a calm relaxed space between all the thoughts running through your mind. Le Page states, "With greater tranquility, we are able to witness fearful thoughts and feelings rather than identifying with them so completely."
