Who is God? What is He like? How do you move from knowing about God to truly knowing Him personally? What is His Name?

In this third installment of On the Mountain of God, God reveals: this is my name, “I AM.” Moses, in response to God’s call on his life, asks “Who am I?” Often our first response to the call of God on our life is feeling inadequate, unequipped and overwhelmed. “Who am I?” However, God reveals it is not about who you are or your abilities but who “I AM.”

Reverence is the proper response of worship before a Holy God. In A. W. Tozer’s classic work, Knowledge of the Holy, he writes, “Left to ourselves we tend to immediately to reduce God to manageable terms. We want to get Him where we can use Him, or at least know where He is when we need Him. We want a God we can in some measure control.” The American Church has lost its way because it has lost its high view of God. It is by grace that we tread on holy ground. We have reduced the Wholely Other One having access to the One who dwells in unapproachable light to a flippancy of “Jesus is my homeboy.”

Every single person is on a quest for transcendence; to catch a glimpse of glory. Our daily activities are an endless pursuit, a searching, and a wandering — hoping to discover that which our heart was made for. You were created to worship. God made you to worship. There is a longing in your soul that will only be satisfied on the mountain of God. Join us for our series, On the Mountain of God. You were created for this.

The New Testament paints a picture of the church that may look very different from your picture of the church. Many of us see our pastors as “religious professionals” who do the work of the ministry for us. They preach, lead, and do works of service for the community. But the New Testament shows us a different image: an image of every believer doing the work of the ministry, partnering together by using their different gifts in order to “build up” the church in love.

One of the most common knee-jerk reactions to hearing the word “evangelism” is fear, timidity, and most often believing that “it’s just not my gift.” But what does Jesus actually teach us about evangelism and the call on Christ followers to spread the Good News? Within the church, there are varieties of gifts. Some of them, like hospitality or service, look familiar to those on the outside of the faith. And yet others are strange: prophecy, tongues, healing—what do these words mean? And how can we practice these gifts in the modern church? All of us desire to be good at something. We want to contribute in some meaningful way through a set of gifts. In God’s grace, he’s given us spiritual gifts. Grace is deeper and more wonderful than you could ever imagine. You are saved by grace and invited to a life empowered by grace. But does this mean we do nothing? How do you experience the empowering grace of God in your life?
