  • Ep. 436: SUNDAY FUNDAY?! Cardinals open the trade floodgates with two major deals -- did they get enough in return?

Brenden Schaeffer discusses the remarkably active day for the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday as John Mozeliak jumped into the trade deadline frenzy with both feet. Mo moved Jordan Hicks, Jordan Montgomery and Chris Stratton for five players across two different deals with the Blue Jays and Rangers.

What do we think of the deals individually and did the Cardinals get enough talent in return for the players that they gave up in these trades? And what do we think Mo and Co. might be cooking up next between now and Tuesday's deadline?

  • Ep. 435: Arenado speaks as effective communication reaches all-time low from Cardinals front office
Brenden Schaeffer discusses the developing situation between the St. Louis Cardinals and Nolan Arenado after the star third baseman spoke to media about the ongoing trade rumors Friday night at Busch Stadium. Why is it, though, that Arenado is needing to answer for questions for which he doesn't really have full authority over the answers?
John Mozeliak is the one with the authority to put an end to this madness. So far, we haven't seen him do it--and it doesn't sound like he's really done much reassuring on a personal level to Arenado, either.
We give our newest thoughts on the dizzying saga that won't seem to end.

  • Ep. 434: Mikolas ejected, LA Times report adds fuel to Arenado to Dodgers nightmare?

Brenden Schaeffer discusses the ejection of Miles Mikolas as the Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 10-3 on Thursday night at Busch Stadium. Everyone seems to be losing their minds in various ways about this incident, so I will explain what I agree with and disagree with when it came to the public perception of the incident.

There are certain things Mikolas and the umpiring crew both could have done more effectively, but the bottom line is Mikolas being in that situation did ultimately seem to seal the deal on another Cardinals loss. What did you take away from the Mikolas ejections, Cardinals fans?

Part II (Around the 28-minute mark) Brenden discusses the report in the LA Times that suggests the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers are engaged in conversations on a Nolan Arenado trade.
We test our media literacy to dive into what the article is saying, what it's not saying, and what we actually believe the scenario would need to be for John Mozeliak to change course from his stated intentions for the Cardinals and do the unthinkable by trading Arenado away.
There would be so many implications to this scenario, so we dive into some hypotheticals to set the scene on something that is almost definitely not going to happen.

  • Ep. 433: Should Cardinals make Nolan Gorman UNTOUCHABLE at MLB trade deadline?

Brenden Schaeffer discusses whether the recent hot streak for Nolan Gorman should remind the St. Louis Cardinals and John Mozeliak that he needs to be untouchable ahead of this year's MLB trade deadline. We discuss the update on Brendan Donovan's arm injury and how that could impact the Cardinals' deadline dealings.

We also dig into some defensive stats for Willson Contreras and get into whether Mozeliak and Co. are waiting too long to wade into the trade pool as several teams have already filled needs at the positions the Cardinals are looking to sell.

  • Ep. 431: Enough already with the Nolan Arenado trade rumors? This one has him becoming a Dodger

Brenden Schaeffer discusses the recent report by ESPN's Alden Gonzalez regarding the possibility of the St. Louis Cardinals trading Nolan Arenado to the Los Angeles Dodgers. For a Cardinals team that has identified its intention to compete in 2024, that would sure be a shocking turn of of events, wouldn't it? We discuss all angles of this one and give our view of things.

We also dive into Adam Wainwright's ill-fated bid for career win no. 199 on Monday night. The Cardinals still managed to beat the Dbacks 10-6, but it wasn't in a way that earned Waino that all-important W.

Additionally, Brenden discusses the feasibility of a Paul DeJong trade ahead of this MLB trade deadline (as he teased he would on Sunday night's episode of B-Schaeff Daily).

  • Ep. 430: Is Willson Contreras really on the trade block for the Cardinals?

Brenden Schaeffer discusses the death of the dream as we now know definitively what the St. Louis Cardinals must do ahead of the MLB trade deadline after the team lost 3 of 4 over the weekend at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The Cardinals are sellers, for sure. But who will actually be moved in the impending sell-off?

After one report from a national insider, Willson Contreras' name has been thrown into the fray. Is the Cardinals catcher on the block after mere months in St. Louis? Diving into the report and analyzing the situation surrounding Contreras this season from top to bottom to make sense of how the Cardinals may approach the situation with him in the long run.

We also look ahead to Monday night and the return of Adam Wainwright to the mound for the Cardinals. What do we expect to see from Waino fresh off the injured list? All that and more on today's episode.

  • Ep. 429: Ron Kulpa cost the Cardinals a critical game as the win streak dies at Wrigley

Brenden Schaeffer discusses the 4-3 loss for the St. Louis Cardinals from Friday, July 21, 2023 as the game arguably came down to a controversial at-bat in the top of the eighth. Alec Burleson got hosed by home plate umpire Ron Kulpa and the rest is history. We discuss the game itself and the impact it could have on the Cardinals as they move forward in yet another daily episode of our Cardinals podcast.

  • Ep. 428: Cardinals make it SIX in a row! Is it possible to sell while still trying to contend?

Brenden Schaeffer discusses the Cardinals' 7-2 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Thursday night as Steven Matz finally earned his first W of 2023. The offense came to life against Marcus Stroman with several big swings by the likes of Nolan Arenado, Paul DeJong and in his first-ever game at Wrigley, Jordan Walker.

Now that the run has reached six wins in a row, Cardinals fans are surprisingly unwavering in their commitment to the idea that the team should sell off its short-term assets. This got us thinking... Could we imagine a way that the Cards could still sell those players but find their way into continuing this run of good baseball to wedge their way back into the race?

  • Ep. 427: Could a magical weekend at Wrigley still reverse course on this Cardinals season?

Brenden Schaeffer discusses Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Marlins for the St. Louis Cardinals as the winning streak was extended to five games. With a four-game series at Wrigley Field set to begin, could the Cardinals possibly play their way into avoiding the sell mode that has been already decreed by John Mozeliak?

Stick around for the full episode, because toward the end, Brenden dives into the idea of how the Cardinals could conceivably sell off the short-term assets while still doing so in a way that doesn't leave the roster bereft of the pitching it might need to keep playing quality baseball.
