March 21, 2021 Live Baatein Session with Derek Domnic D’souza
About the guest: Derek Domnic D’Souza @derekdomnicdsouza graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Creative Arts (B.CrA) from Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology where he majored in Animation. He then went on to work as an intern for Disney, India for a period of 6 months after which he got hired back as an Animation Development Artist to create new animated shows and IP for the company.
Apart from this, he also worked as an Associate producer for animated shows that were on air. Derek loves telling stories and creating various moods in his personal work by the heavy use of dramatic lighting and colors. This is also implemented heavily in his animated works where he focuses heavily on backgrounds to bring the scenes to life.
With regards to other hobbies, Derek loves playing basketball, cycling and swimming. He is currently working as a freelance concept and storyboard artist for Disney Plus, along with being a member of Studio Sideline.

Isha Pimpalkhare @ishapimpalkhare is a textile practitioner, who situates her practice at the convergence of art and design, with a focus on creating emotive and engaging tactile environments.
Having recently graduated with a Masters in Textiles (Mixed Media), from the Royal College of Art (RCA), London, her time at the RCA helped her develop a strong identity and methodology for her practice, with a keen interest on the impact of materiality of our everyday lives. “I was born and brought up in a Sikkimese family in Gangtok, Sikkim and was trained as a product designer from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad (2000 joining). I along with fellow NIDians (Tenzing Nyentsey, Karma Palzor, Ranveer Singh, Karma Sonam and Chewang Rinchen Lepcha) set up a design consultancy called @echostream.sikkim in the year 2008 in Gangtok. The idea was to come back to Sikkim and set up a multidisciplinary design studio in Sikkim and make design an integral part of development and planning in Sikkim.”

About the guest:
Deshna @deshna1987 is a visual artist with a passion for photography, design, writing and curation. A graduate of Sir J.J Institute of Applied Art, followed by a masters in Graphic Design from the London College of Communication and a Masters in Visual Communication from the Royal College of Art in London, she moved back to India seeking to find meaning within her own design practice. This led to the inception of @studioanugraha - a communication design practise based out of Mumbai. The studio focuses on working for the educational, social, cultural, art, environmental and medical sectors. Design for documentation with Publication design as a format of dissemination is the focus and forte.
Deshna anchors the Kumbh Mela Project documentation and design, working alongside a large team of people engaged in the initiative. She currently teaches at the National Institute of Design as visiting faculty and has been a part of other teaching stints and juries at various design institutes in India. She enjoys exploring various philosophies and expressing them through installations which have been exhibited in the UK and in India across various galleries and festivals. She has also co-curated The Story of Light Festival (2015) and the co-directed The Story of Space Festival (2017) in Goa.

Zipeng Zhu is a Chinese-born designer, art director, illustrator and animator in New York City who wants to make everyday a razzle-dazzle musical. After he graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, he has worked at Pentagram and Sagmeister & Walsh. He was one of the Art Directors Club Young Guns 13 winners and has been recognized as Print magazine’s New Visual Artist and The One Show Young Ones. His work has been exhibited all over the world including New York, Barcelona, Dubai, Mumbai, Shanghai and other major museums and institutions.

Now he runs his creative practice Dazzle Studio @dazzle.studio and gift shop Dazzle Supply @dazzle.supply to push dazzle to the next level.

Shiva Nallaperumal

@shiva_n_ is a Graphic Designer, Type Designer and Illustrator from Chennai, India. He graduated from DJAD, Coimbatore, before pursuing his MFA in Graphic Design from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, USA. In 2016 he began his independent practice. Previously, he interned with Grandmother India (2012) and Pentagram (Abbott Miller’s team, 2014). As a type designer, he has worked with ITF, Lost Type Co-Op and Typotheque.

“I follow a research led, process driven work ethic to bring meaningful solutions to design problems. My practice has focused on Identity Systems, Publication and Exhibition Design, Custom Typefaces and Interactive Design for a wide range of international clients.”

Currently he is a partner at November @nvmbr_in , a studio for Graphic Design founded by Juhi Vishnani and him. November works with cultural and commercial clients on Identity Systems, Editorial & Publication Design, Art Direction, Interactive and Typeface design projects.
