The Newbies are back to their regularly scheduled programming and Claire is back at her undisclosed location after reuniting for a "Not So Special Edition" of BNN last weekend. Actually Claire was really home for her boyfriend's birthday but Leane doesn't care. As long as all her kids are under one roof. :)
In this quick hit 40 minute episode, the Newbies attempt to keep the discussion speedy but manage to discuss such topics as the infamous jump and leg wrap greeting that all the women seem to do on The Bachelor; in what circumstances it's beneficial to lie to children; the adorable-ness of Michelle's parents in these altered "hometowns"; Rachel's sky diving face plant; and why Bri's mom is "mom goals" for Claire....and more.
Special noise appearances of distant whistling by Tommy and too much table banging by Leane when she speaks.
Shout out to all of our loyal fans! Rate and review us where you listen!
The Newbies approach this "not" special edition with some trepidation but nevertheless believe wholeheartedly in the value and importance of having an open and honest mother/daughters dialogue about the important themes swirling amid the current controversy within the Bachelor franchise.
The Newbies discuss racism; what it means to be "woke"; how apologies are perceived in the current climate; the importance of belonging to one self; the importance to stay open and keep learning and evolving; and the absolute necessity to keep conversation alive even when points of view differ. It's only through conversation that we can hope to inspire change.
We do not claim to be perfect in the way that we discuss these important themes but we thank our listeners in advance for the willingness to participate in our conversation.
In a Wednesday evening session, the Newbies put up the longest podcast in their Season 1 history and they're not really sure why. Maybe it's because of the excitement of Claire coming home this weekend for the first time since she left for college in Episode 2!
The Newbies begin Ep 7 by acknowledging the current BN controversy but announce they will devote a separate episode to that conversation after they each get more informed about the facts.
In their recap of Episode 7, the Newbies cover such topics as the nasty turn of attitude towards Heather Martin from the OGs; whether being open to date activities like dangerous driving and tantric yoga are essential to a successful relationship with Matt; whether or not jealousy is green or some other color; the departure of Abigail; and the Queen that is Kit for gracefully departing from her love journey with Matt because she just wasn't feeling it. Just what we had been waiting for !!
The Newbies hope you have a couple extra loads of laundry to fold to listen to all of their Ep 7 chatter.
Shout out to our special guest Charlie, our blind boxer, who is snoring in the background of this episode.
Even though the Newbies are not using any loud forks this time, Leane thinks this episode still sounds quite noisy! On a Tuesday night before Claire's musical theater rehearsal at her undisclosed college, the Newbies struggle through discussing the heavy-handed, overly-produced feel of Episode 6 of Matt James' love journey.
With high hopes for next week's Episode 7, the Newbies cover topics that include why MJ feels she has to be a "bad bitch" and why she has such a hard time owning her part of the drama; why Rachel got a super romantic date and why Pieper was relegated to having a creepy date in the dark woods; how Matt seems like he's becoming increasingly overwhelmed by this crazy process in trying to find a wife; and why in God's name was the decision made to have Heather Martin (who we don't know!) show up at this particular juncture?
With all of the above said, special shout out to Chris Harrison and his beginning acting skills in Episode 6.
The Newbies are NOT late in recording this week's episode as they dive deep into a confusing array of topics half-inspired by Leane's confusing notes. Like whether or not the word "ho" is negative or positive; when a "sad rash" is real and when it's used only to get sympathy; how Matt is making out with everyone like a puppy in a biscuit store; whether being accused of being an "escort" would really ruin one's life and how tired we are about the OG vs New Girls conversation in the house.
We can't say we're hooked on Matt Jame's true love journey yet but we are hooked on discussing the myriad of themes that The Bachelor inspires.
Special shout out to our small, devoted group of loyal listeners and Paul Holes, true crime hero, who gave us a shout out on Insta. SO a special welcome to any Paul Holes' fans! :)
The Newbies aren't eating this week due to very loud forks from last episode. And due to a busy week of auditions and callbacks for school plays/musicals for both Claire and Phoebe, the Newbies' Machelor conversation didn't take place until Thursday night but better late than never. We think?
The episode almost didn't get recorded due to emotions running high on a gloomy rainy evening mainly because the Newbies are still dealing with the big transition of Claire being away at college. All that life-y stuff! Thank goodness we can count on the Bachelor to lift our spirits!
This week topics include Chris' 3/4 zip hoodies, which "Daddies" are worthy of "Yum, Daddy", how mob mentality is connected to skinning buffalo during caveman/woman time, the confusing group date of the women literally "fighting for Matt's love" in the ring and how damn good we look in our squirrel suits! And more. :)
No special guests but a special shout out to our loyal fans!
The Newbies are in TWO locations for their 3rd episode and we'll see if we need to adjust our technological specs due to some really loud salad forks. Mom Leane misses 18-year-old Claire who is on her own for the first time away at college; our blind boxer, Charlie, insists on dinner in the middle of the podcast; and Tommy plays keyboard in the background all while the girls discuss riveting Bachelor topics like:
How The Patriarchy has contributed to the girls bullying Sarah for being emotionally spent; why Matt is attracted to women who have some sort of struggle; why we don't want to think too much about Chris Harrison' sex book and how challenging yourself to write and read aloud your sexual fantasy to a man you've barely spoken to can be empowering.
Special new sound/noise appearances by loud forks, loud dogs and a new theme song courtesy of Alisa Eisenberg Music.
From an undisclosed location, the Newbies (Leane, Claire and Phoebe) eat Olive Garden salad and breadsticks (we haven't had it in forever and wow - yummy!) and discuss more of the wacky confusion of the Matt James love journey.
Topics include - the confusion of the wedding dress forest fight; why Sarah must reveal deep personal emotional trauma on Date ONE to prove she's ready for love; the ongoing Victoria saga of whether she's annoying or simply outspoken; and how come it's assumed that every woman will accept the rose? Veteran Bachelor watchers - Please let us know if anyone has ever said "No thank you?" to the question "Will you accept this rose???
No special guests this week but it's the last time the Newbies will be in the same physical location for the podcast since freshman Claire has moved to college. Mom Leane is still crying over it! :)
The Bachelor Nation Newbies (Leane, Claire and Phoebe) kick off their podcasting adventure over breakfast screaming "Matt James! Matt James!" while discussing a range of topics including why Matt licks his chops and rubs his hands; why Phoebe is p'd off; how in the world did we get to 2021 and Matt is the first (!?) black bachelor; whether you should pray or vibrate first; and other truly captivating issues. It's gonna be a wacky journey watching MJ try to find true love!
Special Guest Appearances by Brother Tommy, Marvel the Husky, and The Boyfriend.
