Your body has been fighting for years. Now it’s time to let your soul rest.
In this deeply vulnerable Back Porch Confessions episode, Barbara unpacks what it truly means to live in and finally release... the survival state.
For years, many of us have been operating from fight, flight, freeze, or fawn without even realizing it.
We grew up in chaos, we learned to read the room faster than we read our own feelings, and our nervous systems have been carrying the weight of every hurt, betrayal, abandonment, and loss we’ve ever survived.
This episode guides you gently through:
What the survival state really is
How trauma rewires the nervous system
The signs your body is still stuck in fight-or-flight
Why you overthink, shut down, or stay constantly on edge
How people-pleasing and self-abandonment are trauma responses
What safety actually feels like (even if you’ve never felt it before)
Tools to help your body finally relax and exhale
The faith side of healing... giving God the battles your nervous system can’t carry
Barbara speaks directly to the women who’ve been strong for too long, the ones who had to grow up too fast, the ones who learned survival instead of safety, and the ones who can’t remember the last time they felt genuinely calm.
This is a comforting, grounding, spiritual conversation that brings clarity, compassion, and hope.
It’s a slow unwinding of the pain your body has been holding…
and an invitation to step into peace, rest, and emotional freedom.
If your body has been in fight mode, freeze mode, or “hold it together” mode… this episode is the one your soul has been waiting for.
Survival kept you alive.
Healing will help you live.

When you release the hurt, you make room for your own restoration:
In this powerful Back Porch Confessions episode, Barbara dives into the raw, honest truth about forgiveness, what it is, what it isn’t, and why it becomes one of the most transformational acts of healing you will ever gift yourself.
Forgiveness doesn’t erase the pain.
It doesn’t excuse what was done.
And it doesn’t mean reconciliation.
Forgiveness means you choosing freedom over bitterness. Peace over bondage. Healing over repeating the same emotional cycles.
In this episode, we uncover:
Why unforgiveness keeps the nervous system in survival mode
How holding onto anger impacts your body, heart, and relationships
What forgiveness truly means... and what it absolutely does not mean
How to release resentment without losing your boundaries
Why forgiveness is a spiritual weapon, not a weakness
The emotional and biblical truth behind “forgive as you have been forgiven”
Barbara speaks on childhood wounds, betrayal, emotional abandonment, and the way old hurts shape how we show up today. She walks you through compassion, accountability, and the gentle steps toward letting go, not for the person who hurt you, but for the future you’re stepping into.
This episode is for anyone tired of carrying heavy things… anyone ready to breathe again… anyone ready to heal.
Forgiveness isn’t about letting them off the hook.
It’s about letting yourself off the hook.
And today, peace becomes your portion.

Bonus Episode: Emotional Numbing - How It Hurts Us & How We Heal
In this bonus Back Porch Confessions episode, we’re diving into something almost every woman has lived through but rarely talks about: emotional numbing ...that quiet shutdown of the heart that happens when life gets too heavy, too loud, or too painful to carry.
This conversation uncovers:
What emotional numbing really is
How it sneaks into your life without you noticing
The hidden ways it affects your relationships, body, boundaries, joy, and identity
The roots behind why so many women go emotionally silent
And how to gently thaw, reconnect, and begin feeling again
If you’ve been moving through your days feeling disconnected, tired, overwhelmed, or like your spark has dimmed… this episode is a soft place to land.
Healing doesn’t happen by forcing yourself to “be strong.”
It happens when you allow yourself to come back to life, little by little, breath by breath, moment by moment.
Grab your tea, settle in, and let’s talk about what happens when the heart goes quiet... and how we bring it back home.
Reconnecting With Your Body (Somatic Healing)1. Breathwork
Deep belly breathing
Reminds the body it’s safe
2. Grounding
Feel feet on floor
Put hand over heart
Speak “I am here in my body”
3. Gentle Movement
Stretching
Walking
Slow yoga
Small movements wake numb emotions.

Emotional Numbing: Why We Shut Down & How to Wake Back Up
When life gets too heavy, the heart has a way of protecting itself.
For some of us, that protection looks like emotional numbing, moving through life on autopilot, feeling disconnected, and surviving instead of truly living.
In this powerful 2-hour Back Porch Confessions deep dive, we talk about:
What emotional numbing really is
Why so many women slip into it without realizing
How childhood wounds, abandonment, and survival mode lead to emotional shutdown
The silent signs you’re living disconnected
And most importantly… how to come back home to yourself.
This episode guides you through rebuilding emotional safety, reconnecting with your body, giving yourself permission to feel again, resetting your nervous system, and finding the joy you lost along the way.
It’s gentle, honest, raw, and real, the kind of conversation women don’t get to have often enough.
If you’ve ever felt frozen… numb… too tired to feel… or like you’ve lost your spark, this episode was made for you.
Your heart isn’t broken... it’s waiting to be heard again.
Grab your tea, sit on the porch with me, and let’s wake back up together.

When their unhealed life bleeds onto you:
In this episode, we talk about what it feels like to grow up believing there was something wrong with you because of how a parent spoke to you, treated you, or emotionally handled you. We get honest about the kind of childhood where love felt conditional, where you learned to shrink yourself to survive, and where you carried the weight of someone else’s unhealed pain.
We name the wound.
We speak to the little girl within.
And we begin the work of coming home to ourselves.
Together, we explore how to separate your identity from the hurt you inherited, how to reparent your inner child with gentleness, and how to reclaim your worth piece by piece. There is nothing wrong with you. You were shaped by someone who could not see you clearly, and now you are learning how to see yourself with compassion, truth, and grace.
This is a space for healing, honesty, release, and rebuilding.
You are safe here.
You are loved here.
And you are no longer doing this alone.
Journal Prompts to Release the Pain
Write what comes. Don’t think. Don’t edit. Let it spill.
Part One - Naming the Wound
When was the first time I remember feeling “wrong” in my parent’s presence?
What did I most need to hear as a child that I did not receive?
What emotions was I never allowed to express growing up?
Part Two — Reclaiming the Self
What is something I was always criticized for that is actually one of my strengths?
What parts of myself did I hide to feel accepted?
What does the little girl inside me still need today?Part Three — Rewriting the Story
Finish this sentence: “There is nothing wrong with me. I just learned to _______ to survive.”
How does my heart want to be loved now?
What can I give myself today that I never received?
Visualization Exercise to Disconnect Emotionally From the Parent
Do this eyes closed, slow breathing.
Sit in stillness.
Place your hand over your heart.
Inhale slowly.
Exhale slowly.
See your younger self.
Picture her standing in front of you.
See her face.
Her posture.
Her eyes.
She is waiting for you.
Imagine your parent’s presence stepping back.
Not disappearing—just stepping several feet away.
They can no longer touch your emotions.
They can no longer shape your worth.
They are there, but they are no longer in you.
Step forward and kneel to the child.
Look her in the eyes.
Say gently:
“I see you.
I know how hard you tried.
None of this was your fault.
I’m here now. You’re safe with me.”
Take her hand and walk her away.
Not running.
Not hiding.
Just walking somewhere safe:
A porch.
A beach.
A bedroom.
Anywhere that feels like home.
Hold her.
Just hold her.
Breathe with her.
Stay until she softens.
“I am no longer the child who needs their approval.
I am the woman who chooses her own peace.”
