  • Johnny Walker, author of EKKO Mysteries, joins Kori on The Back Porch
"Sound designers often find themselves alone in old clubs and theaters, usually late at night. Most people aren't aware of this, but these charming venues have lonely corridors and forgotten rooms throughout the building. Each is as dark and full of secrets as any ancient dungeon.  Working behind the scenes, it was my job to crawl through them. Better yet, it was a thrill to explore them.
But I’m not out to convince readers about the supernatural, or even impress them with my knowledge of spirits and ghosts. EKKO Mysteries was written for those who enjoy pushing the adventure envelope, one after the other. My intention isn’t to get creepy, but to have fun. Every character in the series—living or not—has a personality, objective, and sense of humor matching his or her historical time frame. Does a ghost always have to be a roguish demon? Me thinks not.
The spirits in EKKO don’t do a lot of searching and pondering: they come to life and get in your face. Good, bad, or indifferent. Our leading man, CJ, couldn't be happier about that."

  • Multicultural Children's Book Day with founders Mia Wenjen & Valarie Budayr
Kori welcomes the founders of Multicultural Children's Book Day to the program. Join us in a discussion about diversity in children's book publishing, what's gone wrong, what's going right, and where it's headed.
Despite census data that shows 37% of the US population consists of people of color, only 10% of children’s books published have diversity content. Using the Multicultural Children’s Book Day, Mia and Valarie are on a mission to change all of that. Their mission is to not only raise awareness for the kid’s books that celebrate diversity, but to get more of these types of books into classrooms and libraries. Another goal of this exciting event is to create a compilation of books and favorite reads that will provide not only a new reading list for the winter, but also a way to expose brilliant books to families, teachers, and libraries.

    Book blurb:
How many of us have to die at the hands of our own people before we say enough is enough to black-on-black violence? How long will we continue on this path of self-destruction? How long will we continue to live our lives in a position of weakness and ignorance?
In Are We There Yet?, author Martin L. Davis provides the blueprint for what people of color need to do to change their standing in American society and throughout the world. It delivers a blow-by-blow, step-by-step, challenge-by-challenge outline that speaks directly to the heart of the ills black people face today. It addresses how black Americans can correct those ills internally, without outside help or influence.
Complete with concrete directives, initiatives, and challenges to the black population, Are We There Yet? clearly dictates that black Americans take responsibility and be accountable for their actions and inactions. Davis maintains that following the multiple directives and challenges collectively will guarantee a dramatic and positive change in our communities, our place in American society, and better interaction among one another as a people.
