By Jade, your friendly neighborhood bookworm.
The podcast currently has 27 episodes available.
Hey everyone! This week my husband and I are on vacation for a friend's destination wedding! While ya'll are listening, my husband and I will be hanging out with friends/on a plane ride! But in the spirit of Science Fiction and Fantasy, we have already discussed possibly the most famous book ever written, a children's fantasy novel and series, Harry Potter.
Enjoy listening and I'll see ya'll for the next episode, where we'll talk about another exciting Sci-fi/fantasy novel! Thanks Lovelies!
Jade summarizes and discusses Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone.
Listen as she gives you some of the more famous quotes, compares some scenes to the famous movie, and somehow compares Harry Potter to scrambled eggs.
At the end, she'll talk about the use of adjectives, colors, names, and how Rowling increases the tension and stakes.
Since this is the last episode of the Coming Of Age Season, Jade will also briefly summarize coming of age, some of her favorite books of the season, and thank you all for listening.

Hello Lovelies! Welcome back to Bad Bookclub, with your favorite book worm Jade!
In this episode, Jade summarizes and explains the literary movement, themes, and more of Fahrenheit 451!
In this book, Guy Montag is a "fireman" who burns down houses and books in a futuristic society on the brink of nuclear war. Montag is happy being unhappy until one day he comes home from work and meets a young girl named Clarisse, and realizes his wife has tried to take her own life. He then steals an illegal book from one of his alarms and finds himself buried in a hot mess of emotion, rebellion, and knowledge.
Jade has a great time discussing Bradbury's writing process, the book itself, and Guy Montag, who she describes as a wax figure who starts to come alive and think for himself.
She also has a great time discussing seashells, the beat generation, and what this book is actually about, including Ray Bradbury's problematic opinions on censorship.
In the analysis, she also discusses why she thinks the classics are still worth reading, even with their offensive histories.
Thank you for listening lovelies!

Hello Lovelies! This week, Jade is a bit off her game because she just started her Master's Program in Creative Writing, Fiction!
While she's figuring out her weekly workload, she decided to switch up the episode a bit and give you some recommended reading she's received since starting her program, and also her reading list for her first month of the program!
She doesn't give a summary for these, but if you are interested, go ahead and add it to your list of exciting and fun books to read, with an emphasis on writers and authors from other countries including Japan and Nigeria!
She also recommends some craft books for aspiring or practicing writers just like herself!
Next week will be back to Bad Bookclub's regularly scheduled programming, but if you enjoyed this little recommended reading list, let us know in a review or on Bad Bookclub's instagram and Jade will make more episodes like this one!
Thank you for sticking around and listening lovelies, your friendly neighborhood bookworm loves reading for all of you, and she'll keep reading for you through school! She even has a couple ideas about that ;)

Not Really.
It’s not diet at all, in fact it is one of the biggest influences in fantasy and fantastical literature and even games!
Tolkien's work inspired a fantasy revolution, but the Hobbit was enjoyable and cute, that it felt more like mythology than fantasy and it felt like ti could’ve been described as diet fantasy, since even non-fantasy lovers would probably find it enjoyable, engaging, interesting, and noteworthy.
A Hobbit named Bilbo Baggins who wants nothing to do with adventure— thank you very much— is accosted one morning by a wizard named Gandalf, and that very night 13 Dwarves pile uninvited into his home to recruit him as a burglar on a quest of treasure, revenge, and dragons.
They face Trolls, Goblins, dark and dangerous forests, and they find treasures along the way, including swords, gemstones and a magicked ring of invisibility.
Jade also discusses the effect of Tolkien’s work on literature as well as her own personal thoughts on the world.

Welcome to this week's episode on Slaughterhouse 5!
In this episode, Jade tells you all about Slaughterhouse 5 in the order it's written, instead of chronologically. That's right, it's not chronological!
In this book, Billy Pilgrim recounts his experience as a prisoner of war in WWII and the bombing of Dresden, as well as his kidnapping by an alien race many years later that taught him how time is not linear and death is not actually the end. All normal stuff.
Jade talks about postmodern influences, the stress diathesis model, black humor, and why this book was so fun for her to analyze.
Listen in and hear all about it, she even talks about birds and dogs for some reason.
So it goes.
Leave a review on your favorite platform and Jade will give you a shout out!

In this episode, we talk about The Martian, by Andy Weir!
Fun Acts: The Martian was created when Andy was brainstorming what a manned Martian mission would be like, and what would happen if it went wrong. He wrote The Martian and posted it for free on his website, and it exploded. He posted it on amazon so people could read a Kindle version, and it turned into the sensation we know it to be today. ( Write that story you've been working on, guys!)
Jade touches on the pacing, the structure, how Andy builds suspense, and how he creates variation in a book that is mainly logs written on a nearly daily basis for over 500 Martian sols.
She also touches on the emotional manipulation he utilizes, the characterization, and how much she loved it. Did she mention that?

In this episode, Jade talks about The Princess Bride!
This book truly has it all, and Jade got really excited.
Who didn't watch this movie when they were kids? The ultimate "I'm sick, I'd like a nice tale" movie. If you didn't watch it though, don't worry Jade is gonna tell you all about it, what's missing from the movie, where the book differs, and more. If you were ever a fan of the movie, this summary will fill in all the blanks, including Inigo's backstory, Fezzik's backstory, Zoos of Death, all the extras of one of the greatest- and most self aware- Adventure books ever written.
She also mentions Orangutans, narrators and authors, arrogant women, and the greatness of ambiguity and deciding the ending of books yourself.
She also forgets that the count has six fingers on his right hand, not his left. Jade’s bad.
Unfair isn't it?

Just kidding. Mostly. Actually, Jade liked it! Or... did she?
In this episode, Jade gets far too involved and reactive with fictional characters.
She has some strong feelings about this one, and you will hear about all of it.
She summarizes the story for you, and she also laments about Katniss, Gale, and Rue, and she tries hard not to get so wrapped up in her thoughts that she forgets to tell you what actually happened. Lastly, she discusses the world building, characters, pacing, and some of the deeper subjects she can find.
Also! She tells you all about her masters program, new AirPods case, Bad Bookclub Pillow, Live Youtube videos, and more.
Stick around and listen through for a fun and exciting episode!

For the next episode of Season 2: Adventure, Jade takes things in a classic direction and talks about the so-called 'father' of Science Fiction, Edgar Allen Poe, and his most famous poem, The Raven.
Jade gives you some fun facts about Edgar Allen Poe, including his mysterious death and his 13 year old cousin. You can also expect her to laugh uncontrollably about a depressing stanza, forget the title of The Cask of Amontillado, talk more about the gothic (will she ever stop?), and also poke fun at "trashy" novels. Listen in this week to hear about The Raven in all its glory.

So friends, Jade got a bit overwhelmed this week.
She is in a a wedding where the bachelorette party was rescheduled because of the snowstorm, she is starting a brand new job position she wasn’t expecting, she is applying for her Masters, and it is her and her husband’s first anniversary!!
Because of the craziness, she read her book but she didn’t quite finish up her recording and editing. She’s going to delay it just a bit, and she supremely thanks you for understanding!! In the meantime, here is a Science Fiction and Fantasy related episode, and also a fan favorite! We will see you soon for our next episode in our series of Season 2!
Thank you, Lovelies, Jade will make it up to you, she promises, and she will be back for more!
**** Episode Description*****
In this episode, Jade continues her spooky and silly October reads with a summary and reaction to Twilight! A book that Jade has previously avoided reading, but actually enjoyed (SHH DON'T TELL).
Jade also knows that Twilight isn't really a spooky story, but it is about vampires, AND she KNOWS you have all heard of it. Who Hasn't?! In case you don't know, listen to Jade as she tells you the story of 17 year old Bella Swan who moves to rainy Forks, and comes upon a mysterious family with devastating good looks with a penchant for saving damsels in distress. Unfortunately, things turn sour and Bella has to make some tough changes to hang onto her family, and her newfound, dangerous, sparkly love!!
Expect Jade to talk about Pride and Prejudice, characters, and feminism.
She also talks about steaks, creepy boys, suspense, and sucking venom from snake bites.
She also learned, as long as you trip a lot, a mysterious and beautiful vampire might find you irresistible.
But seriously, don't suck venom from a snakebite.
