On the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings, Express has been exploring what it meant for people in Guernsey.
It was 6 June 1944 when Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy in a turning point of the Second World War.
The Channel Islands were liberated nearly a year later.
The impacts reverberated both before, during and after Operation Overlord.
In this podcast, Nick Mann is in conversation with Nick Le Huray, curator of the Island Fortress blog and co-host of the Islands at War podcast...
Eyal Yanilov was the closest assistant to the founder of Krav Maga, a comprehensive system encompassing self defence, combat and fighting, and third-party protection. Its practical techniques and tactics can be applied to a wide range of violent confrontations, and are being taught by more than 1500 active instructors globally.
Mr Yanilov recently came to the Island and taught a seminar at the invitation of Jersey Krav Maga, but first, he stopped by the studio for this Bailiwick Podcast episode. Reporter James Jeune spoke to him about everything from knife defence to mental training, and why Krav Maga is something that everyone should learn.
A landmark report has attempted to uncover the truth of what happened in Alderney during the Nazi occupation.
Crucially, it has put a number to the true total of people who died as a result of the atrocities in the camps in the island after decades of downplaying and exaggeration of the final figures.
There’s also evidence of why the British never prosecuted the perpetrators, which involves cover-up and Cold War concerns.
In this FOCUS podcast you’ll hear from the academics who compiled the report, the history, and the political reaction including how the island plans to move forward to memorialise the horrors from history.
With up to 1,000 new homes expected to be built in a condensed area, E&I has devised a 'Better Travel Plan' for the north. Deputies Lindsay de Sausmarez and Adrian Gabrield explored its details in conversation with Laura Clayton.
Mark Prevel will be doing what many consider unthinkable on Saturday 8th June, completing the Saffery Rotary Walk three times in a row. Having battled with lung and other health conditions throughout his life, he made a physical and nutritional switch during the pandemic, which has transformed his life and led to several unbelievable running and walking accomplishments. Kit Hannah opened up their conversation by discussing Mark's background and how he plans to complete the 100 mile circuit in under two days.
During Mental Health Awareness Week, Laura Clayton spent time with the Guernsey Walking Football Club to find out if moving more really can help improve your mental wellbeing.
Welcome to our Warm Up Muratti Preview Show where we’re bringing you insights from the Guernsey and Jersey teams ahead of two huge matches.
