Welcome back to Baking Bread Season 2! Today, we are kicking off this new season and new year by getting in touch with ourselves and what fills us up. We are joined by Kole, a nutritionist and chef, and a dear friend of mine. Kole first entered and touched my life through his profound words and reflections as a yoga teacher. In our conversation today, we're combining this theme of getting in touch with yourself, your values, and your energy (much like it feels like in an amazing yoga class) with our love for food. What does it mean to truly fill our cup? Whether in the kitchen, or in our life, we're exploring how you can create that "cup filling menu" to best align with you. Pull up a seat at our table, we can't wait to see you!
Happy New Year to all of you! It has been the greatest joy to gather around the table, and meaningfully connect with all of you this year. Today, I'm sharing a short message, as we move forward together into 2021. Be sure to take a look at tayduden.com for an accompanying blog post. With Warmth, Tay
Happy holiday season! Back in May, one of the very first episodes to air on Baking Bread was this conversation with Jeni Britton Bauer of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. In light of the holidays (and giving myself grace as my semester ends), we're taking to the archives to share this sweet sweet conversation. Jeni poetically shows us how in one scoop, one pint of ice cream, it's a beautiful combination of so many people, places, flavors, and love. I often refer to this episode as a meditation with ice cream, as Jeni is able to show us how to show up and savor all of the unique moments that this favorite dessert can show us when we slow down to see it.
Grab a pint of one of the new holiday flavors yourself, I just love em!, and slow down and join us for this conversation. In a season where we can use a little extra grace, and safe connection, this conversation may be a welcome warmth.
Happy holiday season everyone! While maybe we're excited for the season, are you feelin a little funky too? That makes sense! We've been through a year of all years, and just at the time that we could be using that holiday connection the most, it's not very safe to do so. We absolutely might have some hard feelings come up, some days we just aren't feelin it. AND this holiday season, we can get creative on how to connect and share a whole lot of life in new and different ways! We'll be talkin all about that over on the pod, and I'm so excited to introduce you to our first guest to do just that! Allison, co-founder of Noted, a stationery store here in Houston, shares with us how we can use writing to connect with ourselves and others this holiday. From writing a note of gratitude, to spending time processing your thoughts in a journal, we've got so many inspiring ways to still connect with love ones, and take care of yourself too.
2020 has been quite the year. In times of difficulty, much like what we have lived through, or even in times of joy, we often turn to community. Today we are joined by Benjy, the owner of Johnny's Goldbrick. This bar here in Houston is the definition of community, that warm place where all are welcome. Pulling up a chair, talking to the person next to you, and enjoying yourself over a great cocktail is encouraged.
In today's episode, we unpack what it means to create a community like Johnny's. And we also explore what it feels like when our place of community is taken away, or looks different. In a time when community means so much, Benjy and I explore how we can still create that connection even when it might not look the same way.
I encourage you to grab a daiquiri, and if you're lucky enough to live near Johnny's, go grab a to-go order or visit them in person. We can't wait to have you join us in this virtual chat at the bar.
The election is almost here. For some of us, that means doing our research to ensure we are prepared voters. For others, it’s continuing to engage in conversation around the election. And some of those conversations are really really hard. And finally, for so many, this time is incredibly emotional, anxiety provoking, and for some, traumatic. Today Dr. Suzanne Pritzker is sharing her knowledge and experience to help us navigate and move through this time together.
We're talking all things couples therapy today! Maybe you have an idea of what couples therapy is or who goes, before we even start this conversation. After 2.5 years of couples therapy playing a major role in our lives, my husband Will and I can firmly say anyone and everyone, at any stage of your relationship, from proactive to hard moments, can go and benefit from couples therapy. From those initial conversations of "hey, should we do therapy together?" to finding your therapist, what the first session was like, how it feels and what we've learned, Will and I are reviewing our whole experience in this episode. While we know everyone will have a different experience, we hope some pieces of ours might be helpful in your journey. And of course with any questions after the show, don't hesitate to reach out!
Food is a really beautiful, life giving thing. So when we don't have access to it, it impacts our life in more ways than one. Food desserts are real, impacting so many, and it's a call for social change. In today's episode, we're hearing from the incredible Ivy of Ivy Leaf Farms. We're learning about the major issue of food insecurity, we're talking about social change, and we're hearing from Ivy the steps we can take to step up and make a change. The story of how Ivy is using her own strengths and vision to create social change in her neighborhood by providing accessible, healthy food is moving. She's going above and beyond in her community to create social change, all using this unifying basic need of food, and provides a road map for how we can use our own unique strengths to do the same. I can't wait for you to join us.
I started this podcast and website to connect with others, share information, and gather around this virtual table to have really important conversations about mental health and wellness. Today on the podcast, Katrina, one of our very first listeners and connections built through this platform is joining us. She’s talking all about this incredible tool called Life Design. It’s a method that helps us look at the many different life paths and decisions we can make, and helps us navigate how we can create a life that’s most in alignment with ourselves and our values. This episode has had a deep impact on me since we recorded a week ago, and I can’t wait to share this concept with all of you!
Gathering over drinks is a very special time for connection and conversation. Thanks to Melanie and her team at Ghia, they're spreading the word that these favorite nights don't need to include alcohol. Whether for our mental health, our bodies, or a reason all your own, many people may be opting to reduce or eliminate their alcohol consumption. But that doesn't mean we should have to reduce our ability to have late night conversations around the table at the same time.
In today's episode, over a Ghia cocktail, Melanie and I explore the magic of late night conversations. We explore what it means to take care of our bodies while doing that, and how to dip our toe in the water of opting for a non-alcoholic beverage. I hope you'll grab a Ghia cocktail yourself and join us for this very important conversation!
